Jack Blacks shave brush

Jack Black claims that their shave brush performs like a Silver tip. Has anyone done this comparison?

I haven't done a 'side by side', I'll get on that tomorrow if I get a chance. I've used the 'Pure Performance' at home and as a travel brush, and whilst not being my favourite brush, it certainly holds its own.
Very very soft tips, and a firm backbone. It doesn't bloom. My only fault, it doesn't seem to keep any heat for long once lathered up.

i don't own one, but if they are all synthetic, then they do make lather faster than a Silvertip and are, possibly, softer, too. Most synthetics are renowned for these attributes. They can be quite "springy", but you can control this, really.
i have quite a few Frank Shaving synthetics and they are wonderful.

What company makes the Jack Black brush? As I learned from my purchasing my newbie first brush--a Men-U Premier synthetic--I could have purchased the same brush under the brand of its maker, Omega, for about half the price I paid.

To be honest I don't know who makes the brush, I would assume its the jack black corp. But I am like 5% sure of this. I shall google this...

As promised...

Here is what I've used for the comparison. Seeing as the Jack Black 'Pure performance' brush is designed to hold its own against high end badger brushes, I put it up against my beejay custom three band Shavemac D01 and, quite possibly, the best boar brush known to man, the Semogue 1305.
Now I don't bowl lather. But for the sake of this comparison I thought it would be best to show how it handles cream and soap. So, hope you enjoy...

The Jack Black made the most, and best lather, of the three brushes tried. I used new formulation Proraso shave cream for this test.

After a quick rinse, and fresh soaking, I moved onto soap. Cella in my spare Martin De Candre wooden bowl. Classy.

A minute or so of swirling on the Cella, and this is the result. Both the Shavemac and Semogue have 'more' puffed up soap. But if you look closely at the Jack Black...

It picked up plenty of soap from the puck. Now as a face latherer, I'd have no problem working this into a rich lather.

Here are the brushes post rinse. You can see the density of the brushes, and the bloom, or lack there of where the Jack Black is concerned.

Now I have said the Jack Black isn't my favourite brush, and it's not. But it does perform well. I took it away with me for a training college three weeks ago. It was my first time using the Jack Black as a travel brush.
I also used the much maligned Jack black shaving cream, and post shave moisturiser.
Whilst the lather didn't explode all over my face, it it the job very well. Not a cut, nick or irritation.

The case it comes with, for storage or travel, is actually quite handy, and well made, like the brush itself. The handle is solid, and heavy,. The case is made of a quality plastic that can survive a nasty fall, believe me.
I still struggle to get used to the feel of the actual bristles. They are like no boar or badger knot I've yet tried. Very soft. If scritch is your thing, forget it. But whilst soft, this brush can not be considered floppy in any way.

I would not hesitate to recommend this brush.

Thank you so much Perished! You have convinced me that the Jack Black will be my next shave brush! I have just switched to a soap too. Thank you again Perished!

I bought a GBS Shave brush from amazon and it looks the same as the Jack Black!

Of Welsh descent, but the family (Williams) has been in North America since the early 18th century. I've been to Wales (Gwynedd) and loved it, want to go back!

Williams, as Welsh as it can get. I'm from Swansea. Great to meet Americans of Welsh decent... You tend to just hear from our Irish cousins.

I was given the Jack Black brush as a gift 3.5 years ago. I have a D3, S830, C&E, CH2, and to be honest the JB still surprises me with its performance. I wanted to hate the brush, and was very skeptical for the longest time, but it has become one of my favorite brushes.

The only thing keeping this brush from becoming extremely popular is the price. People don't want to pay $85+ to try a synthetic brush. No matter how many positive reviews we owners give it, the price is a hard pill for most people to pay to blindly test a brush.

Regardless it is an awesome shaving brush
