J.M. Fraser's

This absolutely has to be the best deal in shaving cream, right? Great soapy/citrusy scent, lathers like a champ, close and comfy, and you get a full POUND for less than a buck an ounce?! This stuff is heaven, I can't believe I waited this long to try it. You win, Canada, you win.

Right you are!! It is one of the best deals out there. It's probably in my top 5 or 6 creams, and is less than half the price, I bet, per ounce of any of the others in that group.

Funny thing is, as a non-fancy cream, I keep forgetting about it. Thanks for reminding me...it'll get used tomorrow.

I "forget" about it because it's not as readily available here in Houston, or any other city I've visited in the U.S. It's one I'm going to have to look for and try.

The Polar Ice, Mosswood and Oriental Spice variants are equally nice, and have matching Booster's aftershaves.

Latherability, moisturizing properties and protection are excellent. A bargain in shaving creams.

westcoastshaving and shoeboxshaveshop carry them.

Amazon has it in addition to Shoebox and some other vendors. If you have Amazon Prime it's an absolute steal.

It is great stuff... but it contains sodium borate which I cannot handle :crying:. If they were to take that out I would immediately order a few kg's.

I really enjoyed their polar ice cream, and like you said its prolly the best bang for your buck cost wise.

it is a fine cream. although my polar ice did not feel anything like menthol, so I added some crystals now its very cool.

I really like this cream, it is an excellent product. It's nice to find a quality product that is made in countries other than UK France or Italy. Too bad it only comes up it rotation every 40 or so shaves. This is a product I could use every day. I once made a practice bowl of lather and left it overnight on the counter, the next morning there was still a bowl full of thick creamy lather. This is definately a product to try if you are having a problem with your lather drying out before your shave is done.

I like it a lot also. The Sodium Borate ingredient cymric mentioned previously means it will lather even with hard water. Unfortunately it can also cause skin rashes.

J.M. Fraser's original is one of my favorite creams. The scent is okay, the lather is great, and it is the best value of any cream I have seen. It does a good job of softening the beard which is good when you don't have time to do thorough prep. I just wish the other J.M Fraser's creams were the same price as the original.

I don't usually look at ingredient lists, but what other common wetshave products contain this Sodium Borate? I've had a couple of products (Aramis Shave cream is one) that I suspect have caused me some rashes after using. I've not tried Fraser's, but am wondering if I might have a problem with it.

I don't know them all but Proraso/Bigelow, Tabula Rasa and some Gentlemen's Refinery shave creams also contain sodium borate. You might have a reaction to sodium borate or you might not since everyone is different. It doesn't affect me. The concentration (amount) in each product can also cause determine your reaction.

You could also be having a reaction to any of several other ingredients. Try and match the ingredients in products that cause this and maybe you can get lucky and come up with a common denominator.

Thanks. I've used Proraso/Bigelow a good bit and had a sample of GR and none of those have caused me problems. Must be some other ingredient that I've had problems with.
