What's new

Is this true? Really?

http://shaving101.com/index.php/edu...-method-shaving-video-from-mix-to-finish.html

This video is the craziest thing i have ever seen!!!!:w00t::w00t:
Im a fairly new DE shaver, and the guy in this video says that he is using a FEATHER BLADE!!:blink: The way this man shaves his face is INSANE!!

So please can somone tell me if they are familiar with this video, i have heared of the products (through MAntic59's videos), but i mean COME ON!

Does it take that much "Concoction" to get that good of a shave??

I really just don't know what to say!!:huh:

Is his technique seem a little crazy to anyone else as well???

Ok, I only got through half of that. That is crazy.

But I did get a couple of great new terms. I think my favorite was, "follicular mass". Still trying to think how I work that one into conversation, though.:tongue_sm

"Turn the steel" should be much easier to drop into my reportoire.

"Follicular Mass" is a good one.

It's much more fun to take your time. If this guy likes this way good for him but I thought he looked stupid. He shaved fast and all but he went over the same areas over, and over, and over, and over, and over.

This is my observation. It looks like he's trying to speed up the time it takes to shave, so more follicular mass is left behind than should be, so he keeps hacking at it. Because this would cause most people irritation (even if he doesn't have sensitive skin he hacked like 30 times in some spots I bet) he needs all these products.

If I shaved that fast it would turn into work. Screw that.

I watched that video today for the first time. Couple of thoughts: 1) what a mess, 2) why should I have to mix all that up using my hands and a sink full of water (where you spit every night :prrr:) and all those products when I can use brush and a high quality product to provide all the benefits of his concoctions, 3) I haven't ever needed to make that many passes to get a good shave so either he has steel wool for whiskers, his product is inhibiting cutting, or his speed is counter productive.

Who knows if this stuff is the bee's knees or not

He sounds like a race car instructor: First, into second, third, back to second! Pay attention to this! Back into third! Wroooom!

This sounds like "How to smoke a $500 cuban in 2 minutes or less! (using about 30 different products)"

edit: He's still rough on his cheek after about 200 passes?? That's not cutting balm, it must be cement!

If you're into method shaving this is a rather sound introduction. OTOH if you just want a nice shave, don't bother.

As a newb, I gotta say: it's just shaving! Come on! I got into wet shaving cuz I was bored, to be frank (and cheap: cartridges:mad3:). Thought I'd give it a try. I got better results with my Fusion, but I'm new so I expect that to shift some. But at the end of the day (and that's how long it will take if you follow all that stuff he's doing), it's just a shave! I do it for the simplicity of it and the relaxation it brings. I have one razor, one bowl, one soap, one brush. That's it. No aftershave, no balms, no nothing (ok, I do moisturize after, but I have really dry skin and i live in a very dry climate at 1100m up). I prefer to have less stuff on my side of the sink than my wife does.

You won't fit in very well here with that attitude.

Seriously, if you are getting inferior shaves with a DE, your technique needs some work.

Bear in mind too, that this isn't for everyone. Some people just don't want to take the time needed to focus on the skills to get a better shave. For my money, there's no better shave than a straight razor shave, but many just can't/won't master the skill set... The same thing is true of DE shaving over cartridges...

It's not for everyone, but the method shaving people have made a lot of progress on taking every last variable out of the equation and perfecting what the the ultimate foolproof shave system.

Interesting video, not sure if I could duplicate his results at that speed and (seemingly steep) blade angle. Also, the terminology always gets me. Stuff like "slag." I've never tried it though, so I can't knock it.

Method Shaving as a process is worlds different from what most of us do day-to-day. Its a choice and as always YMMV. Some people get great shaves with the Method process, some see it as a waste of money.

Like I said, I've only been doing it a short while (3 weeks). I'm getting BBS on the face and, well everywhere, but the neck is so dang hard! I'm getting irritated there, where with my Fusion I could shave with abandon with nothing but my face wash as lather and get BBS and no irritation or ingrowns, etc.

I really like it, don't get me wrong. My point is: it's just a shave to me. I understand, I think, where the video dude is coming from, in a sense; but for me, I'd lose all sense of the peace and relaxation I get from wet shaving if I had a million steps and products and passes to do. The simple pleasure of it is what I enjoy. Simple being the key word.

Wow! finally a shaving system for those Aeronautical/Rocket fuel-flow/Hydraulic/Nuclear Particle-Colider/Gas-Chromography/nano-technology/Cold-Fusion engineer spe......ts with OCD.

Oh well, seriously never tried it, but as a wise 7O's sitcom taught me that it takes different strokes to move the world. I counted a total of seven different products, priced out at $ 136.00 for the lot. Already too rich for my blood, his cutting balm looks suspiciously like bentonite clay encapsulated in a water-lipid-glycerin transfer matrix.

Who knows my ignorance could be missing out on a fantastic shave, but with all his fancy schmancy terms...I think I've already failed the class he's teaching.

Gotta love follicular mass, quadrant, turn the steel, form#1 #2 #3 and so on. I kept waiting for Dan Aykroyd to pop out and try to sell me a " Bass-O-Matic" for good measure.
