is this a lather catcher? or similar to one

i saw this recently..is it like a lather cather gem jr 1900 type? or they other countries make them too

Can you re-post that 2nd photo a bit larger? Is the manufacturer written anywhere on the head? The lather catchers were nicknamed such due to the large gap below the blade that can store an entire face worth of lather! Another photo would help. Either way, the handle is obviously not the original.

The small indentation at the handle end is for gripping a stropping attachment. The finish could just be worn off.

I thought the handle for my Star was not original, but is shown on the included instruction sheet.

Wood case, metal pin catch, LE TAILLEFER in silver diamond in lid (similar to Gillette diamond TM), gold satin lid lining, also MARQUE DEPOSE,/ FABRICATION FRANCAISE. Also copy of Gillette Brownie, two studs in comb guard. Brand of three hold double edge blades; circa 1930,"
