What's new

Is there a reason I got this so cheap?

gone down south

$34 for a slant is an OK price, but not totally out of line. They're on the bst in the $30 range every so often.

But looking at his feedback, I'd probably still buy/bid with him. Depending.

A Merkur razor? Sure. None of the feedback was along the lines of "wrong item" "not as advertised" "never received", etc.

My guess on low bidding is that the razor is readily available from vendors and not really an "eBay item". Or you got lucky and that razor just didn't come up on anyone else's radar.

Because the shipping is outrageous? Your total price is about what you would have paid, with shipping, at some online retailers.

The last time I went looking for slants on the BST they were in the $60 range. Same story on eBay. I do see one now that sold recently for 30. Hour and a half and it was gone... wow. There seems to be quite a demand for them, at least vs. supply.

I agree not everybody wants a slant. So you were lucky. He does say delivery is $5 for winning bids US only. Not bad at all:biggrin:

You did good and enjoy the razor

Yeah, I am a little confused about the shipping. I thought it might be some sort of oversight by the seller. The listing description says $5 shipping in the US, but the displayed shipping price is 8. And of course, that's what the invoice showed too. I haven't heard anything from him stating that I overpaid on shipping, and I am not the type to press him on that sort of thing.

I should mention that the invoice was the one automatically generated by eBay at auction end. I'm not suggesting that he changed it to 8 after the fact. The auto-invoices just take the displayed shipping price and tack it onto the bid price.

I've never seen a Slant go for $60 in the B/S/T, but I don't monitor it like I used to. In any case, you got a great razor. Enjoy the shaves!

Well, yes, I'm sure if I complained he might refund me $3, but the shipping price listed at the top was clearly displaying 8, and I bid knowing this was the case, so I really don't feel like I have a valid complaint in that regard.
I guess it depends on how it is packed. If that extra $3 goes towards ensuring that it arrives undamaged, like for bubblewrap or whatever, then I'm sure to be happy with it.

And I'm not worried about the seller's feedback either. The 1 negative he got was for slow shipping. The buyer got it 1 month after purchase, and it was a large heavy item (bike). The neutral he got looks more like the buyer was trying to change the feedback they were about to leave. 'wa' suggest to me that backspace was being used, and for one reason or another, the leave feedback button was pressed without a coherent comment.

Yeah, you paid a fair price for your slant. I paid like 30.00 for a used one off the B/ST. So you are right there. Have fun. Slants rock.
