Is replating the only option?

I got this Aristocrat off of the 'bay a while ago, cleaned and sanitized it and have been using it occasionally since. As you can see, I've got a lot of enamel loss, some plating loss and even what appears to be a rust spot. Because of this, it feels like it doesn't glide smoothly across my face. What's the best thing I can do to fix this without losing any more gold? This has gotten me thinking, has anyone tried to put another coat of enamel on? I've seen a couple platers offer that but I wonder if I could do it myself. I'd like to replate a couple razors eventually but it's out of my budget at the moment.

Since all of that has to come off anyway when it get replated, I would forgo the lacquer, and just use it as is, and save up for a later replate. It will still shave the same.

+1. These Aristocrats' gold plating wasn't as hardy as other versions but removing the lacquer lets the remaining gold plating shine a little without the reddish residue.

Thanks fellas. I'm tempted to polish the bars with some Mothers to really smooth them up but that would really make them stand out against the rest of the razor. Replating is still an option but I think I just replaced this with a President anyway. Man does that thing shave nice!
