Is lavender a strictly female scent?

Gentlemen,

there's a teriffic lavender soap available in Germany - and it does wonders to my skin when used as a bath soap. My only concern is that the scent may be a tad too female for my taste. Make no mistake, I love lavender - but on the skin... I'm not sure.

What's your opinion?

Have a fantastic week everybody.

I guess it depends on what "type" of lavender scent were talking about, but in general most scents fall in that very blurred line between masculine and feminine.

I wouldn't worry about it, just use what you like.

I don't think of scents as being female/male. Just use whatever you like.

In fact lavender, and rose used to be considered masculine scents, and many rose, and lavender products were at one point marketed to men.

For example, the much sought after Yardley Shaving Soap was lavender scented. :thumbup1:

There are numerous incarnations of Lavender scented after shave and shaving cream / soap on the market today geared strictly to the male market.
So, No, it is not a "female" scent.
Don't get tied up in that whole "floral is a female thing" idea, it will make your head explode and deny you access to some simply terrific products.

Like Lilac Vegetal?? :lol::lol:

I read an article in a men's magazine (I forget which one, it might be GQ) that said that too many men are hung up on "masculine" scents and the line between cologne and perfume, where many other countries (talking about the United States) simply sell and market scents to people. The article went on to explain that many perfumes work amazingly on men because of the way they smell with the natural musk of a man's skin.

I love lavender too....I buy the scent for washing clothes and dishes, dryer sheets, room deorderizer, hand soap, body wash, and shave soap...

only one person ever made a bad comment, and my grandmother beat him up....

Thanks folks, I'll go for the soap then - now if any of you could be so kind as to send his grandmother over in case someone picks on me.... :blushing:

I agree with pps. Lavender is really neither here nor there. Hubby has a lavender shave soap and it smells just fine on him without being too feminine.

Once you are done with the shave and rinse off, you won't be able to smell the lavender anyway. Soaps don't generally have a lingering scent, it would interfere with After Shaves.

Even going by a conventional American scent palate, there's nothing feminine about lavender. It's the other stuff that gets added in that might make you feel that way. If you find that you do like the lavender scent once you have the soap, you have to order yourself a bottle of Caldey Island lavender aftershave. The pure lavender fragrance is nbelievable. And then maybe some Castle Forbes shaving cream?

OK, since it appears we need some balance here, I'll say it-----YES! Lavender=female scent, OLD female scent! But since everyone has different tastes, use it if you like it. No one, on this forum or anywhere else, is going to like EVERYTHING, so wear what you (or your wife) like and don't worry about it.

And then there is lavender and lavender.

Sometimes the stuff in EdT or EdC is way too flowery or too sweet for my taste.
The real stuff should be herby, at least.

And then of course there are different species of lavender, which will smell different. And whether it is real lavender or a chemical perfume or something will also make a difference.

Big Man, if that's all it takes to make his head explode, he probably wasn't going to make it anyway. It's Darwin in action.

But you are right. For me, Harris Lavender soap is one of the cleanest, most obviously masculine things I have ever smelled, and, I am reasonably sure, what a whole lot of the old vintage brands smelled like.
