Is Barbasol better than Gillette Foamy?

It's basically the same.
To me, that's like asking if Budweiser is better than Coors. Both will do the job, but there are much better choices out there.
From my days with a cartridge, the only difference I remember between Barbasol and Gillette Foamy was that I could get the Barbasol for cheaper.

The Canadian version of Gillette Foamy (the discontinued Gillette Barbershop Clean, which was made in Canada to a different formula than US Foamy) blew Barbasol away in my opinion. Not even close. But now, both of them are pretty much the same. Except maybe Barbasol Aloe.
I find that Gillette Foamy numbs the skin too much and is very drying. Barbasol is much better but still not nearly as good as a high quality lathering soap or cream. I keep a travel size Barbasol for short trips where I don't want to check a bag and need the room that a bowl would take up in my carry-on for other things. For trips of more than a couple of days I would just check a bag and take the full shaving kit with me.
