2024 Y-i-R: 365 Shaves, 8 Blades

I missed one shave this year, Sunday, April 21st, when one of my cats died very suddenly and unexpectedly at my feet as I was fixing the pack's breakfast at 4:20A.M.

Here is my shaving year in review:

Razor:
Gillette Fat Handled Tech

Blade:
Gillette Platinum (Russia) x8: Fresh blade January 1, 2024, then switched out every 45 days or so.

Brush:
Omega (Proraso) Boar

Soaps and Creams:
Proraso Green
Italian Palmolive Rinfrescante
Cremo Classic
D.R. Harris triple-milled soaps (various)
Barbasol Original
Gillette Foamy Regular

Aftershave Splashes:
Aqua Velva Original Ice Blue
Pinaud Clubman Classic Vanilla
Old Spice
Gabel's (various)

2024 was a year of many, many excellent shaves for me, regardless of combination! I hope it was for you, as well, and I wish you many great shaves in 2025!

That’s super impressive! Sorry about your cat. Just curious, did you use the same blade without doing anything to it, it just stayed sharp enough or you had to sharpen the blades?

Same individual blade for each 45 day period. All I did was rinse, soak in 91% rubbing alcohol for about 5 minutes then air dry in the razor with the handle loosened until the next day, and flip the blade over in the razor every Sunday.

Your Idea has me thinking about trying your routine, to get more life out of each blade.

It is impressive. I am reasonably sure I haven't used any of my straight razors 45 times yet, but I will surely get there with time.
