Is a Fatip good thing for my beard?

Hi everyone , this is my first post , so be gentle.... :)
I have thick and coarse beard. So far i shaved with EJ de 89 chrome and just can get the shave i want. This is just to mild for me , no matter what blades i use. In order to have well ok shave , i need to do 3 pass shave and just cant remove all the stubble from my face.Tough beard and sensitive neck area..... So now i want to try some oc razors. Will Fatip Piccolo be a good choise?

Try a straight..nuthin like it..anywhere...

But if you mean DE...go for a razor with teeth instead of a bar where the edge of the blade sits

Hi and welcome mijat,
To what I have heard on this board about the Fatip it may be for you, but you will have to try it to find out for sure. As we often say your mileage may vary (YMMV).

Discovering what works is most of the fun!

I've got the fatip nickel grande and the ej de 89. In my opinion, the fatip is definitely more aggressive. The vintage Gillette open Combs are a nice compromise.

First off...Welcome to B&B!!!

I'm biased, as the founder of the Brotherhood of the Open Comb, I don't think there are more effective razors out there then Open Comb razors, and the Fatip is in my top razors.

Here are some recent threads:

We also have lot's of discussion of the Fatip throughout the BOTOC thread...but be warned...as of today there are over 4800 post in the thread.....and we are all over the place there....!! LOL

Like you, I have a dense coarse beard...I have lots of gray, and the DE89 was not effective for me in stubble reduction without getting irritation. Even loaded with a great blade, it took 4 passes plus multiple touch ups on my neck to get a BBS shave.

With my Fatip...three passes and light touch ups, with my R41...2 passes and light touch up....both result in zero irritation for me.

Prep is key to any good shave, as well as using good, quality products. Even something as simple as blade selection makes a huge difference. Before you discount any razor...try a blade sampler and give several blades a spin.

Good luck on your shaving journey and Welcome to B&B!

As Ken said, given the story you are telling us it seems that the piccolo Fatip or the Fatip Grande may well be right for you. I love my Fatip. It is very efficient.

Only way to find out is to buy one and see. The price is right, so just do it.

Make sure to come back and tell us how you liked it.

There are so many great open-comb razors out there to try. If you want to start with one of the most aggressive of the lot, in my opinion, then go ahead, but be very careful.

The FaTip is my favorite open comb, one of my favorite razors period, and I have owned most of the "popular" razors. It is very efficient but not as aggressive that many paint it out to be.

It is the only razor I can get a close shave in a single pass, better than cartridge in two passes, and a face smoother than a dancers legs in three.

The price point on them is very resonsable, although I do wish that FaTip would spend more time buffing the heads before plating.

It is hard to go wrong with one, give it a whirl, I think you may like it.

For a starter open comb the Gillette New is a fantastic razor. Gets it done and is forgiving. I love the 2 I have.

Back it up for a second... are we assuming that you've mastered pressure, angle, prep, lather, multi-pass reduction techniques and have sampled widely among blades, soaps and creams?

If so, then a new razor might help.
If not, then a new razor will just make things worse.
