Is 24 the Magic Number? (Very Picture Heavy!

Having just finished restoring five vintage brushes with new knots, I thought I'd take a look at my collection just to see what I had. Once I got done fondling them all :crying:, I thought it would be a good time for some snapshots. There are 24 total brushes in my active collection, not counting a few in my junk box that may or may not be eventually restored or disposed of. Of the 24, only two are not brushes that I have personally restored. All the restored brushes have TGN Finest Badger or Silvertip Badger knots. Since I'm exclusively a face-latherer, almost all are set with a 50 mm or less loft.

The collection will expand by one, probably tomorrow, when I get my B&B Essential Boar brush from West Coast Shaving. So many brushes, so few whiskers! :001_tongu

I love what you have done with all those ER and other vintage handles.

I enjoy a good restore and you have many!

Very nice Larry. I'm pretty sure that I can pick out the two which you have not restored. Your work looks wonderful!

Very nice collection , Larry, nice work! I like the looks of that short stubby circle Green Handle in the front row, looks interesting.

I'm going to guess that the two unrestored brushes are what appear to be two boars, each is third from the left in the top and bottom row, dark green and clear lucite handles, respectively.

PS: That's a really nice looking collection. Just be careful and try not to get bitten by the SBAD bug, your house will be overrun by brushes.

Close enough. The third from the left in the back row is a black Omega Pro 49 (boar) and the clear Lucite in the front row is a little Baton with the original Pure Badger knot.

I really like the Green Apple beehive in the front row. Those are the two I was going to guess. Very nice job Larry.

For those of you drooling over the little apple beehive, it's a no-name Bakelite handle, really small (36 mm x 36 mm), and fitted with an 18 mm TGN Finest Badger with a 45 mm loft. The original green color is starting to oxidize to a brown, which is typical of old Bakelite.

Here's a close-up:

This was a real simple restoration. The old knot just pulled out with a little pressure, gave it a light polishing, and epoxied in the new badger knot.
