Insuring your Collection - Do you? Any tips or suggestions?

Hey folks,

Have some of you taken the time to insure your collections? I'm acutely aware that as humble as my collection is, it's probably in the several thousand dollar range, especially with the current pricing.

It dawns on me that this is in the range of some very expensive jewelry - and I know some folks insure these.

Anyone have any tips for this? Was it/is it expensive to do?

Thanks!

This should be covered under your home owner's policy, just make sure your policy is up to date and you document your possessions (this should be done regardless of having any collections). If you want additional coverage outside of home owner's, a policy to cover a few thousand dollars of assets would be rather inexpensive to add on to your policy.

+1^ Just make sure to mention it on your homeowners insurance policy. It should be covered anyways but I mention all important things by name.

I have a rider on my homeowners which covers my wife's wedding band and engagement ring. It took me six years to pay for those bands and to me it is worth an extra 60 bucks a year to be able to replace them exactly as they are. To get a rider, you have to have an official appraisal. I have no idea how that would be done for a shaving collection; but I'm sure someone is qualified to do an appraisal for you. Then you take that appraisal to your insurance company and it will go through easily.
