I have recently bought a Schick Injector M44. It has a shorter kind of square handle. What I am wondering is how does this compare to the other later models. Is there any real difference between this and say a J model other than handle?

Pics are the best way for us to help you. M44 means nothing. It's a production code only Schick understands. Generally speaking though, the Schick's got milder with each new model.

Type I-1. Mid '50s. I have that same razor. A very nice shaver. I can't tell much, if any, difference between the I and the J.
