Inherited my grandfather straight - any insight?

My PaPa passed away a few weeks ago and I asked if he had any shaving utensils. My Nany gave me the following straight razor he picked up in Germany during the world war.

Anyone know of this manufacturer and anything about the quality?

I plan to use it as a decoration in my shave den, but was just curious as to what he had. She said he would open it often and admire it. I will too!

Box reads:
Eduard Kratz - Duisburg

Stahlwarenfabrik & Hohlschleiferel

Blade has this embossed:
14 E. KIRSCH BOCHUM 5

Or we could do it this way: I'm an OSU grad (CHENG '95) and my wife is an OU grad (English '95 / Spanish '95). If the edge is close to decent (not totally rusted out), I'll PM you my address. I'll hone it for you and send it back to you for free. That way if you wanted to use it, you could. Ok? Offer stands, just ask.

Krodor...I truly appreciate the offer, but I think I am just going to hold on to this one as a keepsake and pass it on to my son. The edge is in pretty decent shape and could be honed and used for sure. I am relatively new to DE shaving, so if I change my mind and want to try straights in the future, I will drop you a line.

Thanks again for the kind offer and good luck with the house divided ;-)

Not a problem, of course. May I recommend something like a very thin coating of vaseline on the blade, or mineral oil, silicone, paste-wax, or some sort of metal protection? The blade is high-carbon steel -- great for holding an edge, but also will rust at the drop of a hat, even with atmospheric moisture. If you want to keep it as an heirloom, you'll need to do something like that.

OU / Texas weekend coming up...we can agree on that one ;)

Thanks for the tip......I will get some oil on it ASAP.

I think we can agree on this game for sure.....BOOMER! Let's send Mack out with a bang!
