Info wanted >>San Francisco, CA, East Bay - Modesto, Turlock, Livermore, Pleasanton

Hello All,

I don't know if I am going about this correctly or not, by "Replying" here with this. For me, it is a bit unclear as to how to go about this....... stating a new City and State for hopefully giving others, names of stores that carry higher end shaving supplies, or in my case, I am hoping to get that information from fellow B&B men.

I need information about places I can go to "in person", to the East of San Francisco.

Please advise me on the correct way to do it if this is not the way. Please don't assume I know about starting new threads, etc, as I barely know anything.

The beginning of knowledge, is knowing what you don't know........ I don't know this site, or it's operation, pretty much, at all. These are my baby steps.

Thanks.

Tall Paul

Your going about it just fine  Oh, and there isnt much around here unless you go to the city/bay area or sac. Theres Crabtree and evylyn, Art of Shaving. Might be something further south towards San Diego if you go down there at all.

What's in the city?
I've seen AOS (way overpriced), L'occitane store, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales (both lame), Kiehl's, The shaver shop on Telegraph in Berkeley, Gump's and Nancy Boy. No stores with a good wide selection of stuff though

I know this is an old post, but Bath & Body Works has shops all over the East Bay. San Leandro, Pleasanton, Hayward, Concord..... they carry C.O. Bigelo which appears to be the generic of several well known brands. Specifically Proraso Cream rebranded as well as other shaving & men's products. No hardware, but a fairly decent selection of software. Kiss My Face products are starting to pop up everywhere these days, even saw the cream at Rite Aid & Walgreens lately whereas it was only at Whole Foods before (3+ years ago now, sheesh!).

LOL, that about covers it...AOS is a total and complete rip-off. Kiehl's is...well, they make some good stuff, but really only the Blue astringent is worth picking up. Nordstrom and Bloomindale's in SF are good but pricey (and you can hit all three by BARTing to the Powell St. station)...you can pick up a bit of stuff like Zirh, Baxter's, etc., but I'd only go for scents, not shaving gear. The Shaver shop in Jerkeley is a joke...all they have is Merkur (razors and blades). Nancy Boy and Gump's are both best visited on the SF trip to the other places, but in the end...only Nancy Boy would be worth the pilgrimage. That's it for "high end". All the antiques stores have been throughly plundered for vintage stuff, but you can find mangled straits all over the place. You can get a lot of Pinaud stuff at Walgreens, Personna blades at Walmarts, and if you hit the Indian parts of Fremont and Hayward you can pick up dirt cheap alum blocks and occasional good finds of shave creams. Like the rest of us, you're gonna have to take your commerce to the web...oh yeah...Whole Foods has Thayer's witch hazel iin different varieties depending on location...and like Sharp says, Bath and Body Works, Craptree & Evelyn, The Body Shop...they'll all have stuff worth trying, but no hardware....

^wow somebody that actually knows where fremont is lol

any specific shops for alum block? i'm thinking about tossing mine as its getting kinda small and annoying to use

Random, I'm not sure of where the places in Fremont I found the alum were, actually...I had to take a trip down there to pick up some Dell tape labels from this little place we ordered ours from and just happened to pass by a little strip mall full of Indian stores. If I can retrace my steps, I'll let you know. Almost all of them had them though, IIRC. There were three stores carrying it...look for Royal brand - it's a black and red label.

Cable Car Clothiers has a good selection of British items, such as Kent brushes and combs, some shaving soaps, sticks, and creams, nail clipper sets, and other such, but prices are high - still worth visiting as it feels a lot like a Jermyn Street shop.

There isn't much over here in the Turlock area. :frown:

Just poked my head into Trinkets to Treasures on Center St
(http://www.yelp.com/biz/trinkets-to-treasures-turlock), they had a whole slew of razors (gold tech, couple superspeeds, super adjustable, couple injectors), maybe a dozen in total, seemed to be priced around $8 each. They also had 6 or or vintage brushes, varying conditions and some straights. Nothing I needed so I passed.

The antique place around the corner had 2 overpriced SEs, nothing else.
