Inexpensive 2nd Razor

I've been wet-shaving only a couple weeks now. I have a Merkur Futur which I like. But, I'd like to get a quality but inexpensive razor that's lighter than the Futur as my 2nd.
I appreciate all suggestions.

Try a vintage Gillete super speed or tech. If you like the super speed, move on to a slim adjustable or fatboy.

Apart from the various vintage razors, you might want to try out the Feather "Popular" DE razor. You can find it at classicshaving.com, and perhaps some of the other on-line vendors. It's less than $20 (you might be able to find it in an Asian grocery store for even less) and quite nice. Don't be put off by the metal and plastic construction. It's a reliable, moderately aggressive TTO--kind of like the long handled Gillette adjustable. It also comes in a nice plastic display/carrying case. Stick a Feather blade into it and you're off.

A Knack, Tech, Super Speed (Even the Red Tip will be softer then a Futur set on 1 from what I read), Gillette Adjustables including the black handle.

The sky's the limit!

I went backwards... Futur was my second DE razor! My first was Parker . I do not suggest parker's... yuck.

Oh hey, some people like Single Edges like GEM/Eveready... or injectors. You would have to carry another type of razor blade though. If you do not mind, maybe you will find you enjoy them more! I have never tried them before... so I can't really say much about them.

I also started with a Futur then went through the adjustables (slim, super slim and fatboy) and I have ended up with a New (long comb). Now this might not be as sexy looking as the Futur or the TTO Gillettes but I get the best shave using that simple three piece razor.

Try a New :thumbup1:

Cheers

I hear the New's are awesome! A lot of people seem to really like them and use them regularly as their favorite.

I am just wondering if I am the only one who finds 3 piece designs more "sexy" looking then TTO's?

Although... the Gold and black Super Adjustable is probably the razor I feel that looks the best.

Yes I do have cohones, but that has nothing to do with face shaving/:wink:
I went with the Futur because my sons suggested it and it looks cool. Also, seeing my own blood every morning is reassuring.
Now I'd like to find something lighter and sleeker.
What's a New?

Not much. What's a New with you?

Sorry, I couldn't resist that one.

Seriously, a NEW is the first Gillette model designed for use with the modern thinner blade with a slot as the principle means of positioning rather than the holes. They were introduced in 1929 and produced throughout the 1930's. They come in several styles ranging from low budget ball end pocket editions to mid-range common bar handle versions to higher end DeLuxe models. Check the following link to Achim's page on NEW razors. Many believe, including myself, that the NEW was the pinnacle of razor design for Gillette.
