Incoming Semogue SOC Boar - What Can I Expect?

Everything I've read on these boards points to this brush being excellent. My only current boar brushes are from VDH. I also have a Duke 3 and Wee Scott. Big improvement over the VDH boars (black handle and green handle)? I'm also on the waiting list for the B&B Essential Boar (do I even need this with the SOC incoming)?

the SOC should be all you need, the duke and the SOC should be fine and the WEE for trips--i would not waste any more on brushes for now, unless you have the "idea" that you collect, -i absolutely love the SOC, i have both

if my semogue 830 is anything to go off of, you will definitely enjoy your SOC. Semogue makes great boar brushes. the break in time is about a month before you see "improvements" but it is the journey not the destination.

edit: i gave my gf my vdh boar over a year ago and even that thing can make a lather. boar brushes just need love.

Rather long break in time, and remember this is a large brush. I have 3 Semogues in my rotation- SOC, 1250 and 1305. In truth, I would hate to have to choose between them. I'm kind of lucky - I live near the beach in San Francisco and it takes more than 24 hours for my boars to dry out. So I've bought a few more.....they're addicting, inexpensive, and great brushes.

I don't see the break in time as too long. It was a bit longer than my 1305 and 620, but not ridiculous. I've used mine probably a dozen times, and can already see splitting and can get a good 4-pass shave without going back for more soap or water.

What to expect? A big, tall brush, crafted very well, great for soaps, creams, face lathering and/or bowl.

It's the Cadillac...

The SOC will be more than enough for you. Great brush. You may want to try the 830 as i think it is the best boar brush around!

Do a few palm lathers with a bar of soap and that will aid in the break in time. I usually do 4 palm lathers right in a row. Lather, rinse, lather, rinse and repeat and it seems to lessen the break in time. It will have a bit of scritch for the first few times but once the tips start to split you should be good to go and it will get nice and soft.

I have both the SOC and the B&B essential boar from the latest run that was sold out. I like and enjoy using them both. They are different in personality. Why have both? Same reason why any of us use more than one brush. To have some variety.

What's great about the SOC is that it's soft enough to use out of the box. This is in contrast to most other boars that require diligent non-shaving break in time. Your SOC will become much softer over time and only lose a tiny bit of backbone.

I have both the SOC's but i brought the boar first, the handle was beautiful and performance was so great that i had to by the badger 2 band to have a matching set...

The boar has been lathered/dried about 15 times and its still got ages to go before its broken it, it has a tiny bit of scritch just now still which will fade with time.

Beautiful pictures and thanks for sharing. I am looking to pick up the two band SOC myself to match up with my boar SOC. Just waiting on the Red Proraso soap tub to make it to Vintage Scents before I pull the trigger!

Vivasanti how do you like your SOC Badger? I only have one good badger brush, a Simpson's Duke 3. How does the SOC compare/differ?

Also is the SOC two-band badger superior to its Silvertip counterpart?
