I'm looking for a 1951 razor, some help needed.

Hi Chaps,

As the thread title says, I'm looking to get a 1951 DE razor (which is the birthyear of my dad). The Gillette Aristocrat looks amazing , however I'm not sure how many models of the Aristocrat were in production for this year, just one? Are there any other names for this razor(s)? Please feel free to "school-me" on this year, I'm keen to know what was going on in the world of DE razors around this time.

Of course I'm open to suggestions for alternative 1951 DE razors + info.

Deja Vu! My dad's birth year is also 1951 and I purchased a birth-year Gillette Aristocrat off the bay for him. The '51 razor was the first Aristocrat that was dated (W) so it was somewhat easy to locate as most sellers list this information.

I think I paid ~$20 because it did not have the case and it was not cleaned. There is obviously some risk when buying a "dirty" razor but it keeps a lot of other bidders away so the price is more than agreeable. The razor turned out great after I did the cleaning.

With regards to other razors, I considered an SS and a Milord but I really homed in on an Aristocrat. The coolness factor is unmatched when compared to the other two.

I maybe should have been a bit clearer, I was hoping to prompt people to maybe giving up some info on which Aristocrats were available during that year: #16, #22, W1? I've been getting lost on pages like this....
