Wolfman help needed

Hello, David here. I’m new to the forum and I was hoping to get some thought on my first wolfman purchase. I emailed James and he said I should hopefully be up around mid September. I like milder razors and I prefer titanium. I love my titanium blackbird with the lite plate. However, I am looking to scratch the Wolfman itch. I was thinking about doing the brushed matte titanium WR2 SB head with 0.75 gap and the WRH7 handle. Anyone here have any idea how a 0.75 Gap would compare to the blackbird lite? Both being titanium of course.

Also, I put my name on the list in may and I just noticed the prices went up on September 1st on wolfman site? I’m assuming the price of my razor will be the updated september price as my razor hasn’t come up yet. However, I saw on a previous thread that someone said they thought you would get the price when you put your name on the list? Anyone know if there is any truth to that?

thank you all for the help and good meeting you all!
David

So they're able to update their prices on the website but not the photos and info section :confused1
Going through several hundred pages of Wolfman posts just to find photos of all the materials and to figure out what W1,W2,W3,W4 mean isn't exactly the best method...

Sorry can't answer your questions... all I can say is people on other threads seem to mention that the WR2 heads with high gaps aren't necessarily as aggressive as they might seem.

Everything James makes is more aggressive to me. The mildest WR1 .48 is the only razor here that would even be close to the Lite plate. As far as the WR2 - I never found one I enjoy but that is me.

Good luck.

Many folks say the WR-2 in 0.95 is mild, I am not sure, but personally one fence between 0.95 or 1/05.

I am due to be called up to order for my turn soon, wanted BRONZE WR 2, but thinking I may need to rethink because of price increase.

Moving on too a SS Basic not polish.

I've got a 1.25 OC WR2. It's about as efficient as my brass Blackbird. The 0.95 gap is "standard" for WR2 and lots of folks around here have it. I don't know that I've seen many lower than 0.95.

James or Tara my be able to provide insight on what wr2 gap compares to the Blackbird lite, but they're very different razors. Blackbird is more blade forward with low gap, WR2 is blade neutral with larger gap.

I’d suggest like @Dtownvino says the WR1 design will be closer to the BB. I haven’t tried the LITE only the standard so can’t guide on gap.

You will have to ask James or Tara about the new pricing.

I have owned a .54 and .61 WR1 and a Blackbird Ti and blackbird Lite Ti. The .54 is closer to the original blackbird.

The lite does have significantly less blade feel and the gap is smaller than posted below. The .48 is the only thing close - but it will be different than the lite by shaving angle, etc.

On top of this, I would never get a Ti WR1 again. The weight of the head in SS is quite low, that with a hollow handle is quite a great combination.

I find the Wolfman WR2 Ti/bronze 0.95 to be slightly more efficient than the Blackbird Ti lite plate. I think the 0.90 WR2 blade gap should be comparable to the Blackbird Lite Ti plate. A few years ago, I tried the WR2 0.85 and it was not efficient as the Blackbird Lite plate. I somehow prefer using the WR2 bronze razor (0.95) with a hollow handle over my WR2 Ti razor (0.95).

Good advice. So maybe a custom gap less than .48 would be the closest but I agree it still won't shave like the Blackland. I think James used to do the WR1 in something like .40 or .41 but that was by request.

Wolfman has confirmed the mild gaps as

.48 = -0.14
.54 = -0.06
.61 = +0.02

No idea what the specs would be for the LITE.

The WR1/WRH2 handle in polished SS is my ‘destination‘ razor!! I much prefer this to the WR2 that I tried.

I cannot comment on other material options or other head designs since I have not tried them. Wish I could really answer your questions!

With all due respect, I strongly disagree that the WR1 .54 is comparable to the original blackbird. I’ve been shaving exclusively with the original blackbird and a WR1 .74 for sometime now and in my opinion the.74 is much more similar to the Blackbird than the .54. I don’t have a .54 Wr1 but I have a .61 as well and the blackbird is way more efficient and “blade feely” than the .61.

You are welcome to your opinion. I have owned every WR1 gap mentioned above and multiple BB’s in all metals made. I’ll stand with my opinion but it’s subjective as is yours.

The YMMV saying is just that for both of us…

First off, thank you all for taking the time out to your day to give me your feedback. I have another question. I emailed James at wolfman because im thinking about switching my order from a WR2 to a WR4. Still titanium. I asked him what gap would he recommend for a WR4 that would mostly compare to a WR2 0.75. I also told him that I don’t grow facial hair that quick and it’s not the thickest hair. I honestly could be fine with shaving once a week and get away with it. James suggested a WR4 in a 0.30 gap which is the lowest. Does anyone here have any experience with the configuration? I am not someone that cares about a BBS shave. I shave at night after I put my toddler to bed. I’m just looking for a smooth razor to get the job done and thought I would try out the Wolfman experience. I do enjoy the titanium vector with a Kai Mild blade if that helps. Thanks again for the help!
David

I can't make the comparison but .30 sounds very mild. I have the .55 on order but the standard gap .50 gets good reviews from those who like a milder shave. The .30 has a significant negative exposure: -0.15 with a Feather Pro loaded. I picked the .55 for the neutral exposure. I've not seen any reviews of the .30.

The WR4 head design is incredibly light in titanium. I don't really recommend it to be honest. Sold my .70 more for the weight than the gap.

Given the price change I would be careful with your choice. If you can handle the Vector I'd definitely up the gap.

Thanks for the input! Would you say with the titanium being a solid handle that the light weight of the top cap makes the razor too unbalanced?
