Wolfman help needed

Maybe but it's an expensive way to find out. The bronze WR4 I tried was dramatically better. Mine will be stainless, I did seriously think about going for copper for weight (before the price rise).

That first sentence is what has me hesitant and thinking of the WR2. Not sure if it was this forum or another forum i read where several people brought up the same weight issue you did. Consider the price is what makes me apprciate the opinions I see on these forums👍🏻

I emailed James at wolfman because im thinking about switching my order from a WR2 to a WR4. Still titanium. I asked him what gap would he recommend for a WR4 that would mostly compare to a WR2 0.75. I also told him that I don’t grow facial hair that quick and it’s not the thickest hair. I honestly could be fine with shaving once a week and get away with it. James suggested a WR4 in a 0.30 gap which is the lowest.

I'm one of the closet Wolfman owners. :)

I sat on the darn fence for literally three years because I couldn't land on a gap that I thought would work for me. I was looking at the WR3, the Gem razor. This because plain DE razors don't spin my toque and AC razors are not really congenial with me (except as shavettes).

As it happened another member was releasing a WR3 OC at 0.25mm gap back into the wild and I picked it up. I thought simply sticking a pin in the map would at least show me how much more gap I'd need. Imagine my surprise when that WR3 gave me the best Gem shaves I'd ever had up to that point. (I've since acquired a SlimGem Mantis SE that shaves smoother but takes a bit more care.)

All of which may not make your journey any easier; my apologies. For a guy who likes (some) naked-edge shaves, it seems a little counter-intuitive to like a tight gap. But there you go. Don't pass over the WR3 as a possible razor for you. I fiddled along for years not really liking Gem razors because I never got close enough with them, or dissing the moderns because I never got close enough with them -- and now look; I'm getting lovely Gem shaves from a couple of razors.

I keep having this nightmare/fantasy that James will uncork a "WR5" slant. I'm sure it'd be a good'un, but equally sure it'd be something I'd have to swallow hard and live on ramen for a while to afford. Which isn't to say I wouldn't do it...:)

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with it. I had one of the older Sabres for a while. It had two baseplates and I used both. My original thought, initially somewhat supported by my interpretation of my results, was that I could use the L1 plate with a fresh blade and then as the blade aged out I could switch up to the L2 plate and eke out a couple more shaves.

Well, kinda. As a headshaver I have come to accept that I will get five good shaves out of a PTFE blade. Opening up the gap for duller blades was a mixed result. It encouraged me to go for six, which never ended well. I could never get completely easy in my mind with it, so it is (hopefully) making a new owner happy. Can't remember who got it; wish them well of it. That's all on me, not on the design or the company. They do an excellent job.

I'm both surprised and pleased to have found -- finally -- two Gemish razors that really work for me and exceed my expectations.

O.H. have you thought about trying the Vestige?

I'm picking up an updated Sabre tomorrow to test. Have been rotating the original and WR3 in preparation.
