Ikon Bulldog handle + Muhle R41

Hi guys,

Recently recieved the stainless steel ikon bulldog handle as I wanted to test a heavier handle on the R41. To my annoyance, when I went to screw the handle onto the R41 head assembly it got about half way up the thread and seemingly became obstructed. With a bit of force (not much but a bit more than what I expected) the handle then continued to rotate up the remainder of the thread until requiring the same increased force to firmly 'lock-up' the razor assembly. To experiment, I tried the bulldog handle on the Merkur travel razor head and it went the full length of the thread with no resistance (***?).

Am I at risk of cross-threading the Muhle head if I continue to put the bulldog handle on it? Is it likely the threads on the ikon need re-tapped?

Any help / advice would be appreciated.

I use a GS1 handle on the Muhle R41 and have had no problem.

That said.... these handles are much harder than the zinc alloy plated head. "Forcing" anything sounds like you're going to damage the head. It would worry me, at least. When people post broken razor heads here, it's pretty much always the threaded stem breaking.

Does it have any problems going on other heads?

If you can't get it to screw on any heads without problems I would send it back and exchange for another one

Yes, it seems to go on the merkur travel razor head (only shaver I have with similar thread lengths) with no problems at all. Thought the issue may have been buildup of soap on the threads of the head, but after a cleaning there was no real improvment.
