If you play guitar.....

I use the Korg clip on tuner and like it.
This one looks like it's easy to see. That's good on a dark stage.
 
I have a similar tuner and can only use it at the house. I find that in loud venues, they have trouble "hearing" the instrument over the throngs of screaming ladies. :001_cool:

These type of tuners pick up the string vibration through the clamp rather than with a built in mike. They work even when everyone else is playing.

If yours is a vibration type and not working in a noisy environment then I reckon there's something wrong with it!

I've had an Intellitune for many years and it is excellent in noisy pub sessions when there's a dozen or more other musos bashing away.

I think that my situation is complicated by the fact that I play bass. When I played a lot of double bass, it was helpful in MOST situations. Some places were just so loud that the bridge and sound post would vibrate and confuse the signal.
