What's new

If you bought no more shaving goods whatsoever, how long would it be before...?

...you ran out of something and had to make a new purchase?

I estimate that I have years and years worth of razor blades and aftershaves. I have great brushes that have yet to touch a human face. Let's say I use 50 blades per year. Well, I probably have at least 500 blades.

The only problem for me could be soaps and or creams. There I might run out in a only a couple of years. But then, I have dozens of bars of soap, I could always grate them into my mug and use them - this giving me the better part of a decade without having to buy anything.

Its comforting to know that you could do this if you ever truly hit hard times.

Unless of course you hit hard times because you spent all your money on your acquisition disorder.

Then it's not so nice, no.

I am a little embarrassed to say that if I used 100 blades per year (2 per week) I would have over 32 years of shaving. I have been comparing a wide number of blade brands and have now accumulated way more blades than necessary. I also have about 10 years worth of Aqua Velva Musk in the glass bottles. I bought them because they were going to plastic bottles and I was concerned a reformulation would follow suit. Everything else is 3 years or less.

I probably have enough soap and blades for 2 years, assuming one blade a week. The 3 brushes could probably last me until I die if I wanted to play it that way.

The razors are built to last too, so no worries there.

I'm suddenly feeling very understocked! I probably only have enough blades to make it through the rest of 2010. My soaps and creams will probably last about that long too, but I will have to get more aftershave sooner than that. It must be time to do some shopping.

Well, considering some pieces of my collection are at the 100 yr mark,, then how long can I expect my new razors to last me? So by an educated guess,, my razors will last,,,3,000 yrs. I do think I'll run short on blades, I just got another 100 Feathers, 50 Astras, etc.in addition to what I already have (~200) So I think I should stock up a bit more. After shaves and colognes,,~35 bottles,,, Soap is what has me concerned now that I think of it. Then again, I can and do make much of my own.....
Phew,,, you had me worried there for a minute... I can relax now.

Blades around 3 years, soap/cream around 5 years, a/s 5 years, so i should not need to look at the bst or shaving shops till 2013:lol: no chance

I have enough straights and brushes to last just until I NEED to purchase some more, and that probably won't be too long. :w00t:
I would probably run out of soaps, creams, *** and colognes in about 10 years.

:huh:Unless of course you, hit extremely hard times. In that case you would not have a home to shave in nor would you be able to carry all your shaving gear. Unfortunately, that is the case today with so many home foreclosures and we have not even peaked in the USA yet!

Cheers

I could go about 10 years on blades. Over 500, 1 per week. With shaving creams and soaps, again maybe 10 years. Not sure on the after shave stuff and how long it would last. Should get more stuff, just in case.

With stocks at current levels:

Blades: probably middle of next year before I buy any DE blades...however, if I get the hang of straights this will be extended by a pretty long time :001_smile

Creams: not using them much at the moment, so couple of years' worth.

Soaps: if I wait until I finish one before starting the next variety (like that's ever going to happen!), at least the next ten years :w00t:

AS: I might be getting low by this Christmas :scared:

Unfortunately, AD's are a pernicious condition so I'll still be keeping an eye on the BST!

I don't have a lot of DE blades, but my new straight will keep me going in that regard. Soaps and creams- several years, after shave- somewhat longer.
Time to go shopping!
