identifying 40s us aristocrats

i wonder if anyone has photos of a 41 and 46-47 us aristocrats with the endcaps, and those where the endcaps have been lost, fallen off, or lost it's plating (in the case of the 41). i see many unnotched aristocrats offered on ebay, where the endcaps appear to be missing (?), making it hard to distinguish the different models. i know the regent tech and the 41 was unnotched and w/o endcaps, but what would they look like without the plating on the ends (i'm not sure what to call those parts). the 46-47 was unnotched with endcaps, but what's underneath the endcaps and what would they look like without endcaps? hope this makes sense. as an example: http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages...63417035&formats=0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0&format=0. this looks like a 46-47 that's supposed to have endcaps, but what is that where the endcaps should be?

Under the missing endcaps would be what looks like solder and a little rough. There is one auction on ebay now where the seller is advertising a rare '41 Aristocrat with no endcaps. The razor is actually a '48-'50 with a notched center bar.

I would say he has lost his endcaps.
Here you can see a 1941 Aristocrat without endcaps and a 1946/47 Aristocrat with endcaps:

Oldguy, I too had my Aristocrat de"cap"itated. But it still shaves beautifully. Its one of my razors from the Island of Misfit Toys. I took some very fine steel wool "000" grade, and carefully polished the solder off, leaving me with a lovely, smooth, silver toned finish. Some adventuresome souls could find replacement endcaps and resolder them.
 
thanks everyone, this is what i was looking for. oldguy- if the razor your showing in your photo is unnotched- how would one tell the difference between that razor and a 41 that had lost it's plating over those end parts?

It's not my razor but I do have a '47 Super Speed with no endcaps and the handle drops down when you open. But it still shaves very well. It actually has character.

But the photo is from the new ebay listing where the seller is claiming a rare '41 Aristocrat. I pointed out the three items that make it a '48 and later model. We'll see if he answers me.

If it had just lost it's plating it would look to be shiny and nickel plated. Also the narrow ring on the handle would be slightly grooved and shiny instead of knurled. Actually only the notched Aristocrat has the knurled ring.

i also contacted him. after the comments he received he changed the listing to a "1940s" aristocrat instead of a 1941. however, he does say "the endcaps appear to be intact", when they are not.

I just checked. He now says the endcaps appear to NOT be intact.

I had a razor like that for a while too and it did not affect the shave in any
way or the operation of the razor. You can polish out the end piece where the
endcap used to be and it will come out nice and shiny. Or, you can have the razor replated and the end piece will be nicely plated just like the rest of the razor. It depends on if you want the razor or not. Sometimes you can find someone that has endcaps or you can bid out a razor off ebay that is not too good shape but has endcaps you can take off and put on your razor if that is what you want. good luck BC
