What's new

Id this razor?

It seems to be a TTO silver flare-tipped Gillette with a black plastic handle. The date code appears to be "2". What have I got, please? I've never heard of a silver flare-tipped Gillette, not that I've a ton of experience.

I figure to clean it up. Dunno if I'll use it. It was last used, as far as I know, at least 31 years ago by one of my grandfathers.

I think I've got it. It's a black-handled Super Speed, made from 1966-1986. I'm trying to make out the actual date code, rather than the quarter digit.

Cleaned it up some now. Date letter is "Y". So it's Y2: 1978. He must've just bought this a year or so before he died.

I think you found it youself... Sounds like a black-handled super speed. If you have a picture, someone will be able to confirm.

Congrats on having your grandfather's razor. I'm sure he would be proud to have you use it for its intended purpose!

The black-handled Super Speed was the last version of this outstanding workhorse razor. It is well-regarded as being smooth and forgiving. It is not aggressive, so a BBS shave may take four passes . . . but they say that patience is a virtue!! :thumbup1:

Enjoy!!

Turns out it's not likely my granddad's razor, though it could have been. Y'see, I found it in my parent's place. My Dad has no idea how it got there or that it was there in the first place. This seems to knock the idea that it was his Dad's into a trash can. Oh well.
