What's new

I think I'm in love....

I've tried a few creams before, but I haven't found any that I really liked as much as any of my soaps, so I came to the conclusion that I'm a soap guy, untill now....
Last week I was looking for some new stuff at shaving.ie, when I ran across the TOBS rose shaving cream, I've wanted to try a rose scented soap for a long time, but I thought, why not give the creams another shot? So I ordered the TOBS along with an Old Spice Lime cream and some Proraso soap, the package arrived on friday and first one to try was the TOBS.

What a great cream!

The first  was the scent, it's lovely, it actually smells like my grandmother's rosegarden, not like some of the artificial stuff you get, and when I started to build lather, it exploded in my bowl, it made a really smooth and slick lather very easy. Then to the shaving itself, I grabbed my flare tip Rocket and loaded it with a new Astra platinum, and got to work, what a great shave! The lather gave a good protection, and a smooth wonderful shave. It left my face moistered and nice, so did't use any AS cause I wanted the scent of the cream to last as long as possible.
And on top of it all, when I came down, my wife came and smelled my face and said: "Wow, that really smells like roses, it's the best one you got!"

I am definitely gonna try some more creams, but I think it will be hard to compete with TOBS rose!

Great report! You might consider trying an aftershave or even an EdT with a rose scent. I believe even Thayers Witchhazel has a rose scented version.

I am glad that you had such a delightful experience with TOBS rose cream. I am very fond of all of the TOBS creams and the rose is one of my favorites. Others that I really like are TOBS Shaving Shop and Mr. Taylor. And the Lavender is very nice as well. It is very difficult to pick a favorite...or perhaps you can tell. I just received an order last week in which was the TOBS Avocado shave cream. It gets very high marks on this site so I thought I would try it. I have not done so yet but it smells wonderfully fresh.

Enjoy your shaves,

Doug

I think I'm in love...

But does it make you kind of nervous to say so?

Just so I can relate this back to the thread... I think the guy in the background needs to use some TOBS Rose on that solo patch of beard that he's got going on... Man that would bug the crap out of me.

Mr. Taylor is such a wonderful scent. My wife hates it, says it smells like an old man. This is one I still use even though she hates it, and I shave right before bed so if I use one she doesn't like.... er... well I get more sleep that night anyway!

Mr. Taylor is the one scent I have that I will still go into the bathroom, open the tub, and just smell of it.

I'm very pleased with this one, and I'm definitly going to get some more TOBS creams.
Any suggestions and/or experiences of what kind I should try is welcome.

I have the Rose, Lavender and Avocado, and I think they are all very good creams, both in lather and scent-wise (granted I haven't been wetshaving for very long, but I've started to get the hang of things). I got some Trumper's cream samples, and one of which was Rose, to which I couldn't tell much difference between the lather of the two, and the scent was very similar as well. I know it's commonly said to use an almond sized scoop of cream, but with TOBS I seem to get enough lather out of a peanut size scoop for 3 passes and touch-ups. Having said that, I think TOBS creams are an excellent value, and I'm sure you really can't go wrong with any of their scents (that is if you think they smell good :001_smile).

I have to agree, TOBS rose is a great shave cream with an awesome fragrance--was one of my favorites until I tried DR Harris rose cream. Is your TOBS rose paraben free, or is it one of the older ones? I smelled the paraben free formula the other week, and from what I could tell, the scent was weaker and the texture seemed lighter than the older formula. You also might want to try Harris rose; the texture is very thick, the scent very close--might be better--to the old TOBS rose, and it's paraben free. If you're looking for a fragrance that is an exact match to TOBS rose scent, you might want to try Taif Roses by Montale. Another great rose fragrance is Black Aoud by Montale.

I do that as well, I love that smell. I like TOBS Lavender as well, but Mr Taylor is my favorite smell so far.

Looks like I have get some Mr.Taylor, and maybe some lavender or avocado, or maybe all three.
This forum is killing me, have to sell one of the kids soon.:w00t:

I ordered the Rose today. Couldn't help myself, it was only 12.88 shipped on Amazon. I was ordering some headphones and needed another 12.50 to get free shipping.

Got a tube of Mr.Taylor today, and I have to agree with you, the scent is great!

And as a bonus my wife loved it too :biggrin1:

I haven't tried the Rose, but I find that Taylor's Lemon/Lime is an excellent cream. Slick, rich lather every time.

I bought the Rose and Avocado as part of my 1st purchase when I started into this fascinating addiction.

I love them both. They are incredibly smooth and slick and a cinch to whip into an A+ lather.

Then just yesterday I got a tub of Sandalwood from a B/S/T and it is delicious. I had not been a big fan of Sandalwood but this might change my mind.

Give it a try.

its good - but im not such a fan of the scent... its a great cream to use on my girlfriends legs though :p

Have you tried Salter's rose? I (sadly) just have a sample, but it's definitely a wonderful scent. I don't know if it's better than TOBS rose, exactly, but definitely different -- a bit wilder, a bit more assertive. I also have QCS rose, and, while I really love the lather, the scent is probably my least favorite of my three roses.

Now, if only Castle Forbes would do a rose...

The TOBS rose is the only floral scent I have tried yet, because of the Norwegian import tax limit I have to keep.my orders below aprox $35 included shipping, if not I risk paying 25% in tax, so my last order was a tube of Mr.Taylor, a tube of Speick, and an alumblock, that was all I could get this time, but I'm certanly going to try some more floral scents in the future.
I'm really into more classic masculin scents, but TOBS Rose have definitly triggered my curiosity to the "softer" scents as well.
