I need some fragrance help

Hello everyone, thank you for viewing.

So I have recently began experimenting with fragrances after a long stent in the medical field with one on one patient contact where use of such things was frowned upon. I now work in a medical job where patient contact is not as common, but I ramble from the point.

Anyway, I've tried several different makers/brands etc, but I'm finding extremes of what I'm looking for. For example, I tried Moonshine which I like, but the cedar note is very overpowering after a few hours. I've tried Lacoste Essentials Green and like it, but its a little too light. Just to name a couple, they are the two that stand out. I'm just trying to find something in the middle, more on the masculine side, but not overboard.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'll give you three choices in the three different shopping points

Drug Store Brand: Check out Tabac, it's an interesting spicy, citrus cologne with notes of citrus pepper, neroli and oak moss: Price around $20
Department Store Brand: Havana by Aramis, really great workplace stuff, spicy and upscale, tobacco, tangerine, juniper berry pimento: Price around $40-50
Niche Fragrance: Very popular on this board and among wet shavers is Czech and Speake's stuff, try my personal favorite from the line, Oxford and Cambridge, a real gentleman's scent, two kinds of lavender, peppermint and thyme, a beautiful fragrance: Price around $120

When all else fails you can always just grab a nice Creed scent: Green Irish Tweed and Silver Mountain Water are among the freshest, common and least offensive. Or grab Tabarome (the scent created for Winston Churchill). These are my suggestions. If you give me a little bit more info on what you like, I can try to tailor different suggestions. But I'm sure the guys on the forums have plenty of advice and suggestions to give as well.

To be honest, i'm not sure what I like. I guess the best way to put it is that I am looking for something to wear as an everyday scent that isn't overly "floral". Most of the ones I've tried seem to be a little on the pretty boy side.

I tried to find the Czech and Speake scents you posted about but can't seem to locate them.

If you're close to Southpoint Mall in Durham, there's a l'Occitane shop there. You might want to check out some of their men's colognes. I have sniffed most all of them, and I would not call any of them "pretty boy" at all.

Another option: If you're out near Burlington, stop in at the JR Cigars store just off of I-40. They have a HUGE stock of mainstream colognes for men, and you can sniff away to your heart's content. Their prices aren't too bad, either. :thumbup1:

Moonshine is in my top 10. If you are looking for another masculine frag that's a little milder then I would suggest D.R.Harris Windsor. If you thought Moonshine was overpowering then you may also find Yardley Citrus & Woods and Borsari Acqua Classica too overpowering. If you want a masculine frag that is even lighter than Windsor, my recommendation would be HEELEY Sel Marin.

think Bleu De Chanel is extremely overrated. Especially when you start to explore there Exclusif's line. They have better, less commercial scents. But I will definitely +1 Erickson on the Windsor. It might be the best shaving scent available.

If you are looking for subtle, unobtrusive, yet quality stuff, check out
Bvlgari Pour Homme (which isn't the same as Bvlgari Man)
Emporio Armani He
F Ferragamo

When I went for some minor surgery, I chose to wear 6 sprays of Bvlgari PH, as I figured it shouldn't distract the surgeon.

Ok so just an update...

Found out by accident that Versace for men is good.

Green Irish Tweed is great for an everyday

And D.R. Harris Windsor is by far the best!!!!!

This may sound a bit dated but I absolutely love Paco Rabanne pour Homme. To me it is a wonderful green, soapy, clean scent. (old formulation)

How do you like the smell of Musgo Real? If you like it, give this stuff a shot: Patrick. An excellent fougere, the smell reminds me of a spring forest after a light rain. Woodsy, but with a clean note and not too heavy.

I haven't tried the Musgo, so I guess I'll have to try both. Guys I can't stress this enough, Windsor is GREAT.

Also my fiance like the Czech and Speake Oxford & Cambridge.

And just a curiosity question, maybe it's just me but does Czech and Speake Cuba kinda have a fecal note to it?

It sure does! It's a note of mature quality cigars - and they can be fecal.

For my money, I find the perfect middle of the road cologne to be Burberry for Men. An un-educated in frags friend of mine said "you smell like a department store, but in a good way" when I wore it, so I count that as an un-obtrusive compliment.
