I like My Pils

I recently acquired a nice Pils razor and I was very apprehensive at first due to the mixed reviews but I like it..
I bought a feather AS and found it to be to mild even tho it was very nicely built and gave a smooth shave it just was to mild for me.. You see I'm very impatient and hate to do more than two and sometimes three passes. The Feather required me to do 3 to 4 passes.
The Pils on the other hand only required my two pass likening ,with a small touch up around the coarse chin hairs.

I do have a complaint that mimic's several members.. The surface rust :thumbdown ..not to beat a dead horse but you would expect more from a razor costing over $200. I used the razor and iridium blade for four days, two shaving my head and beard and when I went to remove the blade there was surface rust near the threaded part.. No big deal it wiped clean but still..

All in all I do like it and will be selling off a few of my other razors .. I'm on a quest for the covenant " Cobra Classic "

I have a solution to your problem. After EACH shave, take the blade out, rinse it and rinse the razor. That solved it for me.

Wonder why the interaction of blade plus Pils = rust. You don't expect this on a $200 razor.

I know from past threads that Pils manufactured their razors on the same machinery that did standard metal and that left over metal wasn't stainless so the residue was transferred from the dies to the stainless ones.. pretty poor if you ask me ..

Exactly as I say when i see a cigar way over priced somewhere." For that price a magical rainbow would have to come out my *** and a leprechaun that would blow the smoke out of his mouth for me"before I would pay that price.

Hey Steve, glad you're enjoying your Pils! Please know your Feather has found a loving home and is in a very nurturing relationship with it's current owner:thumbup: For me, it's a two pass machine! I kind miss my old four pass routine. Only two lathers.... Kinda sad. But I'm getting over it:laugh:

Anyway, as I said, glad to hear the Pils is working for you. The rust is kind of a bummer though. Nothing like that on MY (cough, cough:laugh:) Feather......

Cheers and Merry Christmas to you, Bro!

this makes me happy ,Ken.. Merry Xmas to you and family

I borrowed this routine from another member which I think was Metatron. I am not sure though. Anyway, after each blade change, I scour the razor with Bar Keepers Friend and a toothbrush. It doesn't seem to mar the finish and wipes off any potential surface rust. After it is rinsed with hot water, I rinse in rubbing alcohol to displace any water and wipe down with a dry cloth. Rust has not been an issue. That said, this is a hell of a lot of maintenance for a DE. My gillettes require less care, just a quick scrub with simple green.

I was at a loss as to what to do until I decided to try this. I simply remove the blade, rinse the razor and blade and reassemble for the 2nd and 3rd day. As a lazy man, I don't like this, but I really like using the Pils and I haven't come up with another option.

I think your quest for fewer passes would end with the CC. I prefer aggressive razors and sharper blades and 3, sometimes 4 passes is normal for me. There are times though that even with a couple days growth I feel perfectly BBS after 2 passes with the cobra. And the shave is quicker with the wider blade.
