What's new

I keep trying!

I keep trying to hit a moving target. I keep going back to that Butterscotch Thread and they're all so beautiful in their own way.
I don't know if I can get close to the originals,,but I'll sure try. Some of my original formulas were said to be too solid. I think that was correct. So now I'm playing with different mixes to see what I come up with. To me,, they all hold some possibility.
One of the brushes on the thread was said to be "Ugly"? Well,, I've done some ugly too. Some formulas I've attempted looked like something you'd find in a baby's diaper. But that's OK,,I learned something along the way.
As I continue my quest, here is an overview of the colors I was able to come up with as well as some of my originals. Ahhh,, those blanks are just calling to me. And there are more in the molds waiting to get set free. They're to the lighter shades ( lighter than the ones here on the left) I've also made some square blanks as I have other ideas in mind to try. The curse of a creative mind.. or just compulsive!

Great looking butterscotch brush handles! Are you ready to sell any of your creations. I am interested in purchaseing the one in front of the tall square block. It looks similar to my Rooney 3/1. I would like to install a TGN 22mm finest with the loft set to 50mm. Thanks, Doug Rosso

Those are beautiful!

From the direction this thread is headed, I think you should incorporate and start accepting credit cards!

The one on the far right looks just like the Simpson's Keyhole, one of my favorites! A little dark but very nice! I would love that with a Best 20mm knot and around 45-46mm loft. Very nice!

OK, I'm busted. Now I can't show the stuff I've made since then or I'll really be in hot water or run off the board!
The one on the far right is a bit dark, as well as in a bit of a shadow. But that's easy enough to fix. Just mix up another batch!

Thanks guys!
Though it wasn't in my plans it seems others are making me head in that direction. Hey, what's a guy to do?
I love making these things in all styles,,,,so.......

They are awesome, but butterscotch is an age, not just a color. Whoa! Must be channeling a certain Tasmanian.

Can you do other colors in swirl? Red/Yellow maybe? Think outside of the monochrome single valued butterscotch! Ever eat butterscotch? Gag!!

Colors Man! Swirly psychedelic colors! I want to hold it in my hand and have a flash back!

Gorgeous!!! Even if true butterscotch is more than just a color, it still looks awfully good no matter when it was made.

Thanks again guys.
Granted , Butterscotch is not only color but age as well. But considering the limited availability of the genuine article and I really wanted some pieces this was the next best thing for me to try.
This only represents my first attempts at trying to mix up some colors to see how close I could come. Now I can match any shade I like. Knowing I can consistently do this I'm now modifying the mixes to include variations to get away from the monochrome look. I had to start somewhere and this only represents the beginning of my adventures. And even these have generated more interest than I would have imagined.
Besides , I like having the ability to make a Chubby,, in any shade I would like to see to add to my collection instead of having to search for something close.
No, it will never be the authentic thing, but for me it gets me pretty darn close to a brush I want to have. And given time as I continue to experiment , I'll get even closer yet. I just can't get enough of these things.
As Oscar Wilde said,, " I can resist anything but temptation"
and these things tempt me!
Lets see,, I want a Chubby in a tan color, no,,more orange,, no more caramel,, Oh forget it,, I'll make 'em all.
