What's new

I just found another beautiful old Gillette

I found this today at a antique store in St. Louis. It's in excellent shape and it polished up real nice. I paid $40.00, don't know if it's too high or not but these seem to be hard to find. I don't know much about this razor and so now the research begins. Please post any info if you have some, thanks.

Very nice set. The plain case is one of the six ABC sets. Actually it is common but because it isn't fancy it gets less attention at the auctions. I have two of them. The Scroll razor handle is unique in that it doesn't have a matching case. So it may show up in any set, but mostly the Basket and Plain cases.

What is the serial number on the guard? That will date it. Look very closely at the beginning letter as they were poorly struck and and easily mis-identified. I see it has two numbers so one is probably an L repair number.

beautiful set - good price.

I warn you... acquiring these particular Gillettes can fast become addictive!

I looked a long time for a scroll handle set - mine came in a basket weave case.

Congratulations!

Incidentally - these are wonderful shavers... among my favorites.

I got that off of Big Bend. Just do a search for antique shops near St. Louis, but I must warn you, I've cleaned out most of them from Hannibal to Farmington. Another thing, you could probably go into a antique store and not find anything and then I could go in right after you and come out with at least 5 shaving items. I've trained my eyes to find things that are very well hidden. The other week my wife, my Niece and I went to several antique malls and I told them to look for shaving gear and they passed up almost every well hidden item, needless to say I didn't and spent $150.00.

The only one I ever seem to make it to is the Lemay Ferry Antique Mall. I usually see decent stuff there, but it's overpriced 90% of the time. Thanks for the tip off though.

Yep, on Lemay Ferry Rd. It's gigantic. It'll take you hours to get through if you're thorough. If you go and find something worthwhile there, be sure to let me know!

EDIT: My apologies. It's called the South County Antique Mall.

You had me excited there for a second, thought I found a new place to shop. Don't bother with the one on Tesson "South County Antique Mall" I cleaned them out.
