What's new

I have joined the ranks

Thanks to a recent eBay purchase and the masterful skill of LarryAndro in sharpening the blade once I received it,
today I have given myself the very first straight razor shave of my life.

There were a few awkward angles I had to figure out, but I was in no hurry and took my time. Several of the
movements seem natural, and I soon realized that I was shaving and slicing with the same movement. Yes!

I took my time, sipped coffee in between passes and came away with nary a nick or cut.

I, gentleman, am hooked.

The bug is contagious, I've been bitten, but I've not yet succumb to the SRAD. But I know it's out there, and I will submit to its power, soon. :w00t:

Congrats on a successful first go!

Glad to hear you were unscathed.

They get easier and better with time, so don't be discouraged with the occasional nick or scrape when they do happen, keep at it!

Congratulations! You're a rare individual -- most of us old-timers shed a little blood the first time out of the chute. Heck, I still manage to draw a little blood on occasion and I've been doing this for a long time. Every now and then my mind wanders, which is a major no-no when using a straight, and I end up paying for my negligence with a bit of blood.

Great start!

I was amused by an exchange by someone here last week. They told their grandfather they were using a straight. The grandfather asked to see his grandsons' scars. There were none.

The next week, the grandson proudly showed off his most recent, and just received cut to his grandfather.

I liked that story (that I am sure I botched slightly)! And, it won't be long before you are showing off a cut of yours to someone. Wear your red badge of courage with pride, my friend! :)

Awesome!

You're life will never be the same anymore since you may develop some super human power. I for one have the ability to eat as many buffalo wings I can without getting full. Some powers aren't as cool.:001_cool:

You see, the problem is... you won't want to spend that long, sipping coffee between passes, every time you shave.

If that was how it was for all of us, no-body would ever cut themself.
But it's great when that's how a shave goes (personally, I am a night-shaving-while-drinking-bourbon-in-the-bath fan, but coffee in the morning sounds almost as civilised).

My worst "nick enemy" is the Mrs's....she seems to time the "million doller questionnaire" right when I'm getting ready for an XTG...:glare: I think she want's me to get a claim in on the duck.... AFLAC!
