I have discovered the power of Witch Hazel!

I thought I would experiment a little and stopped in to Walgreens on my way home from work today. Bought a bottle of Dickinson's WH and some Pinaud Clubman AS. I am impressed by both products. My skin feels a helluva lot better using these in conjunction with Nivea ASB. No tenderness, no tightness, no redness, calmed my razor burn. I'm not crazy about the Clubman scent...the barbershop-like smell is great, but I would get very sick of it if I used it everyday. I'm looking forward to getting my Gillette Tech in the mail next week from dbconlin and completing this puzzle we call shaving.

I feel like I have discovered the Monolith and evolved from Cro-Magnon to Homosapien!

Using witch hazel is very good for the skin. I posted awhile back on a different kind of use for the WH.

Try using a splash of WH before you lather for your first pass, do it on a dry face, and lather as you would normally do. Then do your first pass.

Use the WH again before your next pass, and before any other passes. When your through shaving and have cleaned up you face, do a final splash of WH, and notice how smooth and irritation free your skin is.

The WH helps soften the whiskers, and takes away any impurities on your face. Give it a try and see how it works for you. Several members who tried it said it works good for them, but of course YMMV. Good luck.

Isn't witch hazel great. If you have any where around you that sells Essential Oils I would recommend picking up some peppermint eo and mixing a few drops in with your WH. It gives it a really nice cooling effect.

Hmm... what brand? Thayer's is odor-free as far as I reckon. I put in essential oils, however.

That's my mix. If anything, throw some peppermint in that ***** to give it a cooling sensation. Put in a lot as per my suggestion for an extreme cool that you don't find anywhere else. Lavender is just a clean, complementary scent.

Witch Hazel is great stuff. Native Americans used the bark for just about everything up to and including arrow wounds. The one thing about unadulterated WH though is the god awful smell. Putting a fragrance in it is a must IMHO.

Add some time and patience. I actually like the smell now but, believe me, I didn't at first.

I first was using store brand, it's functional and helped me through my newby DE weeper stage. I didn't notice much of anything of a smell.

Since then I found some Humphrey's in a natural food store while looking for some liquid lanolin for another project. The humphrey's has a pleasing orange citrus scent and leaves a light oil with a balm effect.

Thanks everyone. Since my "it smells like sweaty____" post I read what you all said, couldn't find anything but drugstore brands so I raided my wifes essential oils stash, found a very light lavender and went for it...
