What's new

I have been tasked by SWMBO *Calling for help*

She has tasked me to add 2 watches to my wish list that are in the $50 - $400 range. I never really wear watches and I believe I own 2 watches at this point and neither have working batteries. A few things on my needed list for a watch as I can see it. 1. Must be self winding / automatic. 2. I really enjoy the look of a skeletonized watch with an exhibition back. 3. If its not skeletonized I really enjoy minimalistic approaches such as Bulova and Movado, but Movado is a little too plain I do need at least hour ticks on the face. Outside of this I just really need some help deciding!

$81wOP1aQCZL._AA1500_.jpghere is one that I was looking at as well

This watch is one of my favorites. It is a G-Shock Aviator. It is solar and atomic. No winding and no setting the time. I also own a digital one (7900B). Also solar and atomic but all black and screen is blacked out. Not as fancy. The Aviator goes to dinners and social events and feels and looks right at home. It also goes hunting, fishing, swimming, hiking... You get the picture.
Just my 2 pennies worth.

I like that, but I am not a fan of the chronograph styling, I will never have a use for anything more than the current time and date, maybe the status of the charge

Fridays are Fishtastic!
Go to Orient USA, lots of nice automatic winders. They are owned by Seiko, but make their own movements.

If you never wear a watch (and a lot of younger guys these days don't), why would you put one on a wish list? I would think you would rather put things on a wish list you really want, rather than something to please a woman. I love watches, and wear one every day, but if you aren't used to one, an automatic watch is somewhat high maintenance. You have to wear them at least 8 hours a day to keep them wound, and they are not nearly as accurate as quartz watches. It just seems to me to be a strange request. I once dated a girl that wanted me to start wearing bow ties because she thought they made me look scholarly. I had to cut ties with her, because that was just too controlling for my taste.

If you are determined to get a watch, I would suggest a Citizen Eco-Drive or other solar powered quartz watches. Very low maintenance and accurate.

Good luck.

truth be told, having a watch at my job would be quite helpful and it would keep my phone in my desk drawer instead of checking the time on it. I am a Service Advisor for a Car Dealership. Pulling a phone out to check the time can be seen as a bit tacky. One of the two watches I own is this one, but its not very professional. $3009-0200.jpg Its a troy lee designed vestal watch that was a limited edition of 600. And this watch fit right in when i was working at a motorcycle dealer doing the same job.

Why don't you get one of those Timex watches that clip to your belt with a carabiner?
that way nothing is on your wrist that you obviously don't want and you won't be pulling out your phone and looking tacky.

OR, JUST SAY, "Darling, I love you dearly but I don't want to wear a watch."

See I just dont have love for the watches that are chrono's...too much information as you glance at it.

+1 on chronos. I just can't seem to generate any love for them. The fact that the big sweep hand is only going around when the chrono is running is a deal killer for me. It always makes me think the watch has stopped when I glance at it. If I need to time something, I use my trusty G-Shock.

The Sea-Gull is pretty cool, if you like skeleton watches. Personally, I find them very hard to read the time on, and this one with blued hands may or may not solve that problem. But, if that's what you like, it's a good looking watch.

Look at the other Citizen Eco-Drives, some are more minimalistic.
Any with an AT designation only need setting once, they update time/date/summer time etc via a time signal that's good to go in Europe, Japan and the states.

Ask your beloved if you can choose just one in the $800 range.

I have narrowed it down to the orient and marata pilot :D thank you all for your awesome help :) Ultimately I am only going to get one watch, if I get a watch. So the $800 range is out seeing as I am the only one working right now anyways lol.
