What's new

I have 37,800 combinations to try

:w00t:

10 razors
15 types of blades
7 types of shaving cream / soap
4 brushes
9 aftershaves / balms

And that's not taking into consideration that one of the aftershave balms is unscented so if I use that, I've got 3 different types of cologne.

I reckon some people here would have combinations in the millions.

Hi,

Interesting. But from my limited grasp of the mathematical world, I'm not sure your calculations are correct. Maybe it is that simple but I thought there was a more complicated formula for calculating the number of possibilities. Like doing a factorial or something. I really can't rememeber.

Anyone else care to opine?

K

OK, thanks PhoR. So I'm relieved the math is so simple. I'm going to go figure out my own possibilities and post back. :)

Ok. 100 possibilities.

I believe since each combination has to choose one from each category every time, that the math IS that simple.

It would be different if you had to consider ALL combinations, including using no razor, 2 razors, 3 razors, no blade, 2 blades, 3 blades, etc...

It's not complicated. We're talking combinations here, not permutations.

10 razors and 15 types of blades=150 combinations. If you have 7 different creams, you times that by 7, and so forth.

Maybe I should do the math for my stash.......

Nah.

With the 3 additional colognes you're looking at over 113,000 combinations.... ..... ...You better get started! Keep us posted.

8 razors, 3 brushes, 42 soaps and creams, 17 aftershave splashes, 5 aftershave balms, 14 EdC/EdTs... 1,199,520. Didn't think I'd clear the million mark; but I'm sure after Jon, or Rob, Henry etc. throw a big number down I won't feel so bad about all the stuff I've got

From my own stash I have millions of combinations to try! :w00t:

The sad part is that there is no way a human can shave that much in one lifetime.

I'm shocked, I really have to stop buying stuff :blushing:

12,852,000 combinations

- and if I live to the average age in my country I have approximate 13,140 days left.
If I'm going to try all combinations, I have to shave 978 times a day :w00t:
I might be late for work tomorrow

12 razors, 12 brushes, 3 blades, 18 creams/soaps, 14 balms, 26 colognes: about 2.8 million combinations. That's one per day for ~7755 years - about 100 "shaving lifetimes". I suppose I need to accept that I won't get to try all the combinations, especially as I already have favorites and turnover brushes and razors sometimes.

Dr. P has about 200 brushes, I have no idea how many of the other items he has, quite a lot I expect!

oh, yeah - thanks for calling me out, Christian.

I cannot - no, I refuse to - believe that I have 2.8 BILLION potential combinations....

Christian, did you factor in your blades... (not individual ones, but the various brands)?

nope.

I'm sure I'd run out of something before I got up to... say, a hundred million shaves or so.

good luck in trying to remember what you have already tried. maybe you need to hire an accounting firm to help manage the task.:w00t:
