What's new

I hate my socks

So I'm very tired of my socks. So far I've tried Gold Toe, Perry Ellis, CK, Nordstroms, and English Laundry. With every pair they work great for about 3 washes, then I can't get them to stay up for the life of me! What do you guys do? Brands? Over the calf? I'm about to get back problems from bending over pulling them up all the time!:cursing::001_huh:

This may sound stupid, but I love the quality of Finish Line socks. They are a little expensive, but they last me many, many months. They have nice black socks that I wear to work. Comfortable as well.

In military shops they sell little strips of elastic with suspender like connectors on each end.
One end connects to the sock top and one end connects to the shirt tail.
The socks keep the shirt tail tucked in, and the shirt tail keeps the socks up.

I wear thick hiking style socks all the time. The brand is Holeproof Explorers and I never have a problem with them falling down until they get old and it's then probably time to get new ones anyway. I've worn the same brand of sock for almost 30 years now and I'm still very happy with them.

Darn Tough, been wearing them for years now they will stay up - period; and last a good long time. Worth every penny. H
I have their dress, hiking, & sport socks. The mesh socks are great for the summer, merino wool for the winter. Superb quality. I buy mine from campmor online. Smartwool socks are pretty good too just not as durable as the Darn Tough socks.

Over the calf stay up. They're only bad when you first take your trousers and socks off and you have really weird lines on your lower legs.

I rotate about 12 pairs of dress socks. As long as they're a decent brand (Gold Toe, Calvin Klein), they last about 18 months.

PSSSSTTTT http://eshop.viccel.com/#

Viccel i prefer mid calf these are super thin--retain their color and breathe better than any sock i ever ever wore. I ti tried them all.

Honestly they are so thin and breathe like no other sock--- for the first time i don't get stink foot :thumbup:in rain and hot summer days.. -- surprisingly supportive to with my dress adlers or allen edmunds.. or casual land end mocs..

they are imported from Turkey --beware US customs on my first order customs held for over 4 weeks--2nd order thru customs in a few days --- so that is out of their control --any issue problems Kemal will reply to you via email and takes care of all.

read the thread on vissel socks on styleforum for ton more info--if you get i do not know of anyone who disliked them

been using them for 5-6 days a week 4 months no drooping, no color loss, :001_wub:

From your posts I take it you are talking about dress socks rather than casual/work ones.

You need to get a good OTC (over the calf) sock. You will pay handsomely for them, and they will be worth it. My favourite brand is Pantherella from England, although other high-end brands doubtless can match them and maybe even beat them.

Sierra Trading Post often has them on discount.

Oh, and don't throw any of those socks in the dryer ... machine washing is okay, but always hang-to-dry dress socks regardless of material.

i got a good otc -- fyi i am a weight lifter over 20 yeqrs and have extra large calves.

so the OTC i just do not like all the extra coverage...

Call me a minimalist! ;-)

PS - yes dress sox primarily but also functional with casual mocs (like i stated) -- due to wants and success Vissel is in process of making the low profile socks, and perhaps other types.

Then I'd say OTC is not for you. Most OTC dress socks are not made to expand that much to fit a tree-trunk-leg, so every time you pull them over those grapefruit on the back of your shins, you are destroying those OTC socks.

But I suspect the Pantherella mid-calf socks would stay up well, too.
