What's new

I found this on a german auction site(you know the one)

proxy.php

It's being sold as a 1933-45 military razor, but to me the lack of notches on the top piece doesn't make sense (nowing their actual purpose). Anyone familiar with such equipment?

The translation of "Wehrmacht Eigentum" is "property of the wehrmacht" and the wehrmacht was the army of the third Empire. so you can definitely date this razor to the ww2. i have seen some of them in german auctions before but not often. most of them are very simple and not heavy or beautiful ...

regards michael

You have a whale of a piece of history there. I would not try to restore it in any manner without consulting someone more learned in this field than I and see if the big war museums in Germany or in the Allied countries would be willing to purchase it from you (for big $$$$$).

Hi,
im sorry to say, but these razors are a fake, there had never been Razors as property of the Wehrmacht. In german forums its a long discusses thing what to do with those Wehrmacht branded razors. After speeking with more than a dozen Veterans that have never seen such a razor nor heard about it and viewing former list of personal soldiers equipment in that no razors had been specified, it becomes more an more clear that razors in the Wehrmacht and the other german armies had been a private thing, instead of the allied armies the germany used their private razors. The German soldier also had the chance to buy a razor from the barracks depot, but these razors only had been the same razors as could be bought for private that time.

Not really,
theyre made more for reenactment and militaria fans than for razor collectors/users.
That Wehrmacht Razors are just simple replicas of Royal Army Service Razors (you know the Gillete New Type with the Two Studs), early Techs or just like the Yuma razors. Its just the same thing like so many other german militaria, cheap produced in poland or czechia, a bit technical aged and sold on Ebay.

The Replica Producers from wherever, try to use a lot of different design elements, the Tech similar Handle is used just as the typical german 1930s handles (hexagonal).

Theres not only one german auction site, there are a couple of ebay sellers in germany an poland selling these kind of replica razors discontinous.
There are also a couple of pseudo brands like "Wehrmacht Eigentum", "Eigentum Wehrmacht", "Luftwaffe", "Heer", "Reichszeugamt", sometimes vintage razor blades are sold with the name "Soldatenfreund" that are also replica.

This is also my opinion. The soldiers ordered their shaving utensils at a sutler which procured the articles and delivered later. There has definitly never been unity shaving gear for the German armed forces.
