I found my Holy Grail while on vacation

and I felt like John Travolta in Pulp Fiction when I came across it in an antique store.

what is it, you ask? I acquired a cased gold Gillette Aristocrat at my favorite antique store up north. the razor appears to have been owned by a woman in its previous life, as the case smells heavily of perfume. as for the razor itself, it's in pretty good shape and only has a tiny bit of brassing on the top - my guess is that it was caused by the box and not from owner negligence. the best part was......wait for it..............it only cost me $5. that's right, 5 ducats for an Aristocrat in VG condition that I never thought i'd own without having to sell my kidney. the case isn't in the greatest shape, so if anyone has a mint condition Aristocrat case laying around they want to part with lemme know.

I just got back from vacation about 30 minutes ago but i'll have some pics when I get some time. I scoured every antique store I could find and I only came across 2 Gillettes - the Aristocrat and a ball-handle Tech. the majority of other razors I spotted in the wild were a buttload of Gems and Shick Injectors. go figure

Dude, congratulations. 5 bucks is a silly price. I love that weird feeling when you find a good score. It's the feeling of getting away with something in a perfectly legitimate fashion.

And I never thought I'd become one of those people who go to antique fairs or junk shops. Wet shaving has civilized me in many ways.

I hear ya. I felt like I was stealing from the antique shop owner. either way, i'm excited. I just need to give it a cleaning and sterilize it and i'm good to go

Its ironic you say you felt like Travolta, when you you were "stealing from the shop owner" :tongue_sm In that scene Travolta and Jackson are actually committing a holly act. Marsellus Wallace's soul is in that briefcase, so thematically ripping off a vendor is hardly the same thing :p

If you notice in the start of the movie Wallace has a bandage on the back of his neck where they extracted his soul to be sold to the devil (in a briefcase with a lock combo of 666). Vincent and Jules are in effect doing gods work killing the couriors. God actually does stop the bullets in the handgun. Furthermore god also makes Vincents gun go off in the get away car effectively killing all the people stealing the soul.

I always liked this reading of the movie. The typical briefcase filled with gold interpretation is just so tired and cliche. It also puts a completely different spin on who is crazy and who is acting rationally in the film.

\end movie nazi rant

Excellent find and congrats on your razor  I just couldn't help the rant.

Congrats on the great find! I didn't get anything that nice, but picked up four old Gillettes for $18 a few weeks ago.

Don't worry about "ripping off" the store owner. I stumble across bargains now and then, too. I always pay the asking price in cash. Whatever they have the price at represents what they see as a fair return and cash is always appreciated.

ok, I felt like Indiana Jones stealing the golden idol then

That's the same feeling i had when i picked up a mint escher with labels and box for $20 in some podunk town i graduated college from. I wasn't even there looking just waiting for friends to arrive for Happy Hour, so i crossed the street to an antique store.

Oh my god, five dollars.... are you kidding me? Besides the HD Rocket this is the razor I want the most. Why can't I find deals like this here in Michigan?

So what does Butch have to do with it? Doesn't he kill Vincent? He also "saves" Marsellus, the direct aftermath of which is the torturous death of the "gool ol' boys".

This is a very good question.

Vincent turns away from the path of the righteous that Jules illuminates after the soul saving takes place (in the diner). He returns to the path of the wicked. Butch I would think is punishing him for this. If your going to buy into this reading of the film Marcellus is fighting for his soul and therefor turning his back on the devil whom he sold it to. So Butch acting again as an agent of god saves him from a fate worse than death.

I had never thought this far into things so this is another "shooting from the hip" reading, and bear with me since it has been several years since I'v watched the movie.
