What's new

I currently have

an EJ large super badger with an 23mm knot.

My complaints are it is too scritchy(considering it is super badger) and the knot is too large and it splays wide.

I am considering a Simpsons Colonel. I know the knot is about the same as what I have but the loft is shorter and shouldn't splay as much.

So, I have some questions about the Colonel:
1. Is the Simpsons best hair as soft as I have heard?
2. Is it scritchy?
3. Does it splay or does the short loft inhibit the splay?
4. How is the flow through after it is broken in?

Thanks everyone in advance for your responses.:001_smile

Wow, I owned the EJ super for a short time and can describe it as anything but scritchy. It was one of the softest brushes I owned (also the floppiest). If you think that the EJ Super is scritchy, then I would think your thoughts on simpson's best would be like steel wool or something.

That said, I would think that any simpson's don't splay as much as the EJ Super. They are anything but floppy. I think the best hair is very good indeed. However, I wouldn't get my hopes up thinking it is softer if you think the EJ super is scritchy.

Just my take having owned both types of brushes.

The Colonel is a great brush. I had one but sold it in favor of the Duke 2, whose shorter loft and handle shape appealed to me more.

Simpsons Best is really great. Soft, but with a good amount of backbone. A tiny bit scritchy, but I like that. It will splay a some, but not too much. Flow through is good, definitely not a lather hog at all once you get used to using it for a few weeks.
