What's new

I can't wait!

I sent a birth quarter slim out to reliable for rhodium replating 6 weeks ago, and they told me today that it should be ready by the end of this week. Man, I can't wait! If it looks as good as I expect, I'll have a fatboy and another new to follow (I have a new and a new deluxe in nickel already), otherwise, they'll go to krona for nickel. I love the look of a fresh replate, and knowing that these wonderful shaving tools will likely be around for my grandkids to enjoy. I'll post before and after pics when it arrives, I'm sure.

Please do. I've been thinking of getting a slim re-plated in rhodium. I'd love to see what it looks like finished.

I am also considering a replate of a Slim - but I didn't know it took that loong...

I always wondered how thorough the pre-replate maintenance is: do they disassemble and remove dirt from the insides? Or do they leave it assembled and dip it into the replating solution as it is?

And how are surface blemishes actually removed? is it the coating that covers them, or do they do some kind of corrections before?

If you do nickel, Krona has a much quicker turn around. In reliable's case, they have a lower price for rhodium, have a great rep, and since I wasn't in a big hurry, I went with them. I sent a new deluxe to Krona at the same time, and got it back in a couple of weeks.

As far as prep, that does depend somewhat on the company you use. Buffing, stripping, etc. They normally don't take them apart, IIRC, but may be wrong. I don't have a lot of experience with replaters, but I wouldn't hesitate to use Krona, Reliable, and ontoman from UK. I'd ask them questions about their process to find out the details.

Well, 3 weeks later, and I'm still waiting. I've been told it was almost ready to go 3 times now, but they still aren't asking for billing info. I'm sure they will do a great job when I finally get my razor back, but the bad communication is a bit much. I was prepared for a longer wait than the 4-6 weeks that was originally quoted, but I'm now in week 10, and my razor is still "almost ready". Today it was a couple of days left, but we'll see. They were supposed to call me at the end of the week of the 3rd, and again today they said they are going to call by the end of this week (23rd).

Customer service and communication is what is going to prevent repeat service, I'm afraid. I think ontoman and krona kruiser will get my future business. I can handle the delay, but the "we'll call you at the end of the week" is getting old quickly. Pictures will follow (hopefully) before too long.

5 weeks later. Still waiting. "We'll call at the end of the week" apparently means something different than I think it does. I've been told that 3 times, and no call yet. Also, they were supposed to return my call a couple of times, and that never happened either. I will have to call again today since they didn't return my call yesterday.

To anyone looking to use this vendor, I would recommend that you NEVER use them. Their communication is terrible, and 4-6 weeks has become 12 weeks, and I'm still not sure what the current status is. I'm not one to normally flame vendors, but this is the worst experience I've ever been in.

Oye... I feel for you, man. I just read this post from top to bottom and I am sad to see the gradient from 'pumped' to 'pissed'.

Stay positive. I am sure that the sexy Rhodium Slim will be well worth the wait.

Just got off the phone with them. It is supposed to be polished and needs a couple of days to "bleed out" then it will be ready to ship. He said it will ship on Tuesday. Sounds good, except...I was told before that all it needed was to bleed out, and it would be ready to go--3 weeks ago. But let's say that I am now cautiously optimistic. At least they finally took payment info, so I guess it is getting closer to complete.

It FINALLY arrived today. I need to repaint the numbers, and then I'll be ready to put it to use. The plating is nice enough, and I have no complaints about that, but I still say the poor communication and horrible delay will cause me to never use reliable again and I hope anyone considering using them will think twice before giving them a shot. There are better options out there.

Honestly, I think I'm just as happy with nickel, and Krona Kruiser is super fast with good quality and good prices. He already has my next 2, and I have plans for at least 2 more at some point.
