What's new

I bought my Futur and a shavette today but.

I made the trip to WCS picked up a Futur, Parker shavette and a few other items.

When I got home I broke out the new Futur but examined it with a fine tooth comb before use and found an issue plating coming off before I gave it a first try.

The plating loss was not going to keep me from using this monster but I noticed something else. The blade gap is way off. I tried several other new blades thinking I had a bad blade but they are all the same. I decided not to destroy my face. Is there a fix for this blade gap issue?

Wanting to shave with one of my new toys I broke out the Parker shavette took my time nice and slow about a 15 minute shave and got the best shave of my life. First time I had shiny skin after a shave but I got razor burnt pretty good.

I am at a loss for words on the Futur and the 2 issues. I have read about this on the forums and never thought I would get a double whammy. Anyways the visit to WCC was great again the best customer service you could ask for.

I never have had an issue with my Futur, but I personally wouldn't risk it. I find the Futur aggressive enough as it is! Perhaps someone will chime in. Does your top cap have an arrow on one end? If so, try flipping the cap and that might be the issue. Also check to make sure the blade is set into the blade holder all the way so the pins grab it when you engage the head. It may just be slightly off and causing the blade gap issue. Otherwise, I would make the call to WCS.

Looks like you have the only Slant Futur that I've seen lol. I'm sure that if you can't find the solution here, WCS will rectify the situation in the most amiable way. Good luck and happy shaving!

Hey that's a good one. Maybe I can sell it as a custom Future with a build in slant feature.

EDIT: @DUKE I read the thread took my razor apart and found that the piece containing the springs is in fact warped it does not seat properly on one side. While one side is perfectly ventered against the two walls the other is pushed up against the wall on one side.

I had the same unbalanced blade gap on a Futur a few years ago. This gap difference seemed quite common on Merkurs. I have an older EJ with the Merkur head (gap off) and a 38C(gap equa)l. I don't have any problems with the EJ (my daily shaver) but I am sure that West Coast will be happy to replace yours. That's what I would do

My pal an engineer took the razor apart and found a solution for me. He showed me that dropping the blad while set to #1 eliminates 99% of the problem. So today I decided to go for it 1st shave with the beast. 1st pass dialed it up to #7 shaved top to bottom. 2nd pass again at #7 bottom to top. 3rd pass set to #3 right to left on my right side to dead center, then left to right left side of my face to dead center. I got a near BBW shave with very little irritation. As for the plating after looking closer at 80x magnification the plating is actually there but the casting is indented, poor workmanship on Merkurs part. I am going to keep the razor I hate exchanging stuff good thing it was not a super expensive razor.
