How many passes do you get when facelather?

Topic

I only seem to get 2 passes after about 40-50 seconds of charging on a VDH. Maybe I didn't have enough water in my brush when I charge.

Please share your experience!

Thanks.

I get enough for 3 passes, but for the last one I have to squeeze the brush (as seen on one of Mantic's videos) to get enough lather for the ATG pass.

i do 3 passes but have enough for 4 or 5.

make sure you soak your brush for at least 3-5 minutes. put a teaspoon on your soap, let it soak for 5 min, squeeze out all the water, shake brush hard 5 times or so, load soap, wet face, load face and dip brush tips lightly in water and keep building lather on ya face, dip brush tips every 10-15 sec 6-8 times. it will take around 2-4 minutes and your arm might get tired till ya get used to it. don't rush it and add water quickly. when it's ready it will look like a moist sour cream.

soaking brush for 3-5min is what was key for me and adding water slowly and sparingly. for the next passes rinse your face and that should be enough water, you can dip it lightly one or two more times but not anymore really, the same for any further passes.

try this method as i have used a wetter brush previously and wasted a lot of soap and blood. with this method the soap hardly makes a dint and no blood loss, you really do get maximum usage from your soap.

I expect it is not too much water -- generally less is needed than at first expected.

Most likely you do not have enough soap on the brush. I don't have a VDH brush so can't say for sure, but it might be that the less expensive brushes simply do not hold as much soap.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just go back to the puck and load up some more!

Or you can reload the brush when you run out. I use shaving sticks and sometimes I have to re-apply and wet the brush-tips between passes.

I've learned that VDH does not like too much water.. I only shook brush and was getting a pretty poor lather, once I heeded the advice of forum members I also squeezed out the brush a little. and it made a worlds of difference...

Coming from bowl lathering I was wondering why my lather on the second pass was so little with the same load time. I realized that it was because I was letting the brush stand straight up instead of resting in a bowl, the lather crept it's way to the center of the brush making it harder to get the good stuff.

Try resting it hair down in a bowl or mug and see if that helps bring out the lather for subsequent passes.

There is no shame in going back to the puck. Often it only takes a few seconds to reload the brush. Better to reload the puck than to worry about it.

+1 on that. I usually get two passes, with enough to do three. Since I use a Slant Hammer I don't often need more that two.:thumbup1:

The size of your brush can make the difference as to how much lather it holds. This is one issue that I don't concern myself with. When I face lather I typically wind up with lather about half way down into the bristles of the brush. That easily gets me another pass and I can always reload the brush if I need more lather for the third and fourth passes.

At first I only got a couple of passes and had to keep going to the puck.
Now I probably have enough for 4-5 passes.

I normally only take enough soap/cream to create lather for each pass. Just add a little bit more soap/cream before each pass. My face likes the fresh build of lather each time around.
