How long do shaving brushes last?

Im just curious as to wonder how long shaving brushes last. My Trumper's medium Super Badger brush is a few months old now and is still going well. However with this one and a Wilkinson Sword brush I had a few years ago, very rarely a strand came out of it and resided in the cream on my face. Is this normal? I like my current brush a lot and I don't want to replace it too soon.

I used an EverReady for over 30 years....(used 2-3 times per week) only recently did it start losing hair.

You should be good for quite some time.

It is normal for a brush to occasionally lose a hair/bristle. If it's happening frequently, though, then there's a problem with a brush.

I have a Gillette brush from 1917 that has all its bristles and works just fine.

It doesn't happen frequently, it happens once in several blue and orange moons.

Short answer: A long time for a reasonable quality badger brush. (I haven't heard estimates for boar brushes; no slight intended.)

Long answer: Reputable badger brush manufacturers have suggested 10 years is a realistic lifespan for a brush. Most of us have a couple brushes (at least), and it doesn't take many brushes at 10 years a pop to stretch out to a useful human lifetime of shaving. To the best of my understanding, the 10-year lifespan doesn't take into account a very reasonable (to me, at least) argument that allowing a brush to rest between uses, i.e., alternating between two or more brushes, could well extend the lifespan of each brush.

Punch line: You should be able to enjoy your brush for a long, long time.

Your mileage may vary.
Some people take good care or their possessions and they last them a verylong time.
Other's abuse their stuff and it doesn't last them very long.

I'd definitely get 2 or 3 and rotate them. I'd maybe have 2 "weekday ones" (used on alternate days) and a super-duper one for high-days and holidays.
