How long do injector blades last?

One of the big advantages of DE razors is that the blades are so cheap! You can often buy 100 blades for $15 and get at least 3 shaves from 1 blade. But injector blades are much more expensive. Do they last longer? I want to try an injector, but since they cost so much more, I can't see myself using one very often.

Just curious.

Ted Pella sells 20 blades for $4.60. Thats only 23 cents each. Shipping is a bit steep though $15 for CONUS.... So make sure you stock up if you take the plunge.

I just got a pack and they seem very nice smooth and sharp. Though I have never used any others to compare to. I read once that they are made my Persona, but I cant back that up.

I get 3 good shaves, and 2 more workable (starting to pull) out of a current production schick blade.
Usually I just do the 3 (4 pass shaves) and change it. Still means that a 7 pack of blades lasts me a month.

I have also bought my injector blades from Ted Pella. I do not recall paying $15 for shipping, but it is extra and they use a carrier such as UPS or FedEx. As Loric said, if you can buy in bulk or split a larger order with another B&Ber you could save on the shipping.

As for your question, I think each brand of injector is likely different. I tend to get 4 or 5 shaves out of each Ted Pella/Personna blade. If you can find yourself some Personna 74s you might get 30 shaves out of one blade. :001_smile

Just bought from Pella. Shipping is cheaper if you ship to a commercial address. About $5 for an injector and 200 SE blades.

I get about 3 shaves from the pella blades. And thats it, trying to go for a 4th shave is painfull!!

I get the best shaves from my injector using some feather profesionals:thumbup1: I just trim them down to size, open up my old E-type and load them in. I get at good 7-10 shaves from one feather blade. :thumbup1:

Strohman,

For me, the Pella Injector blades give three (3) good shaves and one (1) OK shave, for a total of four (4).

The most I ever get from DE blades is three (3) shaves in total.

Feathers give one (1) excellent shave and thats it !!
Gillette 7'o Clock (Russian), Iridium Super & Astras give two (2) good shaves, and one (1) OK, for a total of three (3).

So, the Injectors are ahead; I find the same with GEM SE blades in my GEM/Ever-Ready razors - they also give four (4) shaves :001_smile

Have fun !

Best regards

Russ

Three shaves from a nos PAL Hollow Ground (fifties). I am going to try to resharpen them. There is something on EBay for just a few dollars that should work also with injector blades. Have one coming in. A soon as I have it I will try it.

I generally get 7-8 shaves from a genuine Schick Injector blade. About the same from a Pella/Personna.

DE blades I only use for 3 shaves.

Four purposes of comparison, a Feather ProGuard blade in my Kai Captain is good for about 10 shaves.

I had one of the much sought after Personna 74's, and pushed it to around 18 shaves before the quality was starting to taper off.

You're seeing mileage vary. I can rely on 6-7 shaves from the Personna blades, under their various names. I topped off my 1000+ injector blade supply recently with 200 from EMS at just under $50 shipped, so slightly less than 25¢ per blade. The per shave cost is about the same for me as with a cheap DE blade which lasts me perhaps 3 shaves.

I had been changing the Schick brand blades after 7 shaves, but discovered that I could get 8-10 out of them. I've got 70 of the NOS Personna 74s, but haven't yet tried them.

Anyway, worst case, if you get 3 shaves from an injector blade, like some of the folks above, and you paid 25¢ for the blade, that's still not that much more than for a DE blade. In my case, with my best injector razors, I get a closer shave in fewer passes than with my best DE. YMMV there too, obviously, but it still makes it worthwhile looking into injectors.

Four shaves from a NOS Schick. The end of the fourth shave and the blade is working just fine; pick it up for the fifth shave and it has quit.
