How good is Proraso compared to Tabac?

I currently use Tabac, which I might say is the best there is, but I am curious about Proraso. How does it measure up on the Tabac scale and does it give you freeze face?

I like Tabac but find myself using Proraso much more often. I use both the menthol and the green tea & aloe. The Green tea & aloe is very mild and has no menthol. Do yourself a favor and buy both of them. They are very reasonably priced

Proraso is one of my favorites. For the price it's worth a shot, it's a great spring/summer cream.

Although both are excellent, I prefer Tabac.

All you need do is look sternly at Tabac and it'll produce a perfect lather...

+1 on Tabac for winter and Proraso for summer. Also like MWF on winter and Mama Bear Northwoods for summer to keep variety.

This isn't even a contest. Tabac trounces Proraso so bad, they shouldn't even be allowed in the same sentence, much less a comparison thread.

Tabac, the undisputed winner. Anyone that disagrees with me is just itchin for a fight. :001_tt2:

I haven't used Proraso but I have used Tabac a lot and I really like it. It is among the best performance-wise, but not THE best. Here's another tallow soap recommendation for you.

AOS is superior to Tabac. It's made by Valobra in Italy and is probably the benchmark for shaving soap quality if you ask me. Give it a try if you can.

Either the menthol or the eucalyptus in Proraso irritate the heck out of my face. Add that to actually liking the scent of Tabac, and I'm going to have to stick with our German brethren on this one :001_smile

Both are excellent. Both produce a rich and slick lather. I think the Proraso softens better but the Tabac has better slip and cushion.

The Proraso is the far superior soap. IMHO, all the Italian soaps trounce Tabac in quality.

Well, now you know.

Agree there's better soaps.

Personally, I tried the tea flavored soft Proraso soap and wasn't impressed with the performance. It's not quite like a cream, but is lighter than Tabac. Some of us just don't care for the way Tabac has a gummy, stringy, slimy, yet softly pearly component to it. If that soft sticky thing isn't your thing, you might prefer the lightness and easy rinse from the proraso soft soap, although I don't think it offers very good protection. Maybe that particular one is more for cream lovers. Meanwhile, Tabac offers excellent protection. I think even among people that don't like Tabac, most people agree it's the baseline for really good soaps, which also means it's bottom of that pack. It does the protection job, but at the cost of scent and a slimy feel, and also lacks a bit in other areas. I'd personally rate Proraso lower.

Because that Proraso version is for sensitive skin, I gave it to a friend that had trouble with other stuff. There's better stuff out there, so I didn't replace it. But my Tabac also sits useless.

As for face freeze, you must be referring to the menthol version. The tea one won't do that.
