How do you use your pre shave cream?

I am waiting on some Proraso pre/post shave cream that I just ordered. My intent is to use it in my pre shave routine. I have never used a pre shave cream before and was wondering how others use it in their shave prep..

Do you apply it and lather over it?
Apply and rinse it off before lathering?
If you use a hot towel do you apply it before or after the hot towel?
How long do you let it "soak" in before lathering or rinsing it off?

I think most of us apply it and lather over it.

for me: I apply it, let it sit for a min or two while I prep other things, then apply lather over it. Mostly face lather too.

I've read that some folks apply it before every pass. I just apply it for the first pass.

the shave tonight will be the first time in MONTHS that I won't be using Proraso pre/post.

That proraso pre-shave is super strong, be ready when you open it, it's like vicks vapor rub. I keep some edwin jagger pre-shave in the shower and put it on when I am about ready to get out. I lather right over it.

I use the proraso before and after shave , use it sparingly... afterwards helps with any irritation.

I use it quite liberally. I rub in a thick coating and lather right over it. I love it. I buy it in the big 'barber' size (300ml) from "Italian Barber". Makes for a wonderful shave. ENJOY!

Depending on what I feel like that day, I either use Proraso Pre-shave or John Allan Slick Water.

Put it on, prep some other things (get my lather made, make sure the razor is tight, etc), then lather over it. I just put it on once per shave.

I sometimes use Cremo as a preshave cream. Sometimes I leave it on, sometimes I rinse it off.

I usually rinse off my first lather, after it has softened my beard for a few minutes. Then I apply preshave oil and relather.

My order came in yesterday . Wow, its really potent stuff, I definitely get a Vicks hit from it. I used it in my per and post shave routine and a little bit goes a long way.

For the pre shave, as suggested, I let is sit for a min and lathered over it (I am a face latherer). It has a very nice menthol kick to it, almost face numbing. It definitely helped soften my beard and I got a nice smooth fiest pass.

It wa also nice as as a post shave, soothing and again a nice menthol kick.

Glad I pickes it up.

I just use lather. Lather up, strop, rub in lather, cold rinse, re lather then shave

I used to use it before every shave. Used it so much that last time I bought the big barber size tub. Since then, I honestly can't remember when I used it last. I'm not sure why I stopped using it. I think it was when I started shaving in the shower, but there is really no reason why I couldn't use it in the shower as well. I also recall that the Proraso Green shave creme started to irritate my neck, maybe that's why I stopped using the pre shave as well.

I put it on, let it sit and then later over it. I did not apply it between passes though. It is potent stuff and does improve your shave, IMHO. I may need to try it again.
