What's new

How do you like IOS 7?

Well, I went ahead and upgraded my iPad Mini to IOS7 when it was released. I'm usually not too eager when it comes to updating OS's (I'm still running Lion on my Macbook Pro) but I decided to go ahead and give it a try.

It's nice on some levels, but I've noticed that two of my game apps, Storm Raiders and Aerofly FS, run a bit less well since the upgrade. They both lag a little. Hopefully the developers will come out with an update for IOS7 that fixes that issue. I kind of wish I hadn't upgraded, but it's too late now.

Everything else seems to work fine. Hopefully some updates will come out that will resolve these minor issues. Until then, I'm going to have to get used to my mini with the new IOS. There's no going back now.

What are your experiences?

Running it on my iPad 2, and haven't really noticed any performance issues yet. The aesthetic is starting to grow on me a little, but I'm still a long way from liking how it looks.

one thing I have noticed, though, is that it won't let me size and rescale custom backgrounds the way I want, which makes the picture I had as my background (of my cat) look terrible.

To me it looks like an Android device now. That's not necessarily bad, but why would you do something like that? I liked the fact that my iPad looked more or less just like my Macbook Pro in terms of how the screen displayed. Now it looks very different. I wonder if this means there's an OS11 coming out, or maybe just a big redeign of OS 10.

I did have an issue with the screen rotation. It got stuck in landscape position. Restarting the iPad seemed to solve this. This seems to be a common issue according to the forums on Apple's website.

I have not done it yet. I looked at someones phone last night and it looks way to bright and colorful.. almost childish. Also like Foyle just said, it looks like an Android phone now. It seems with every update Apple does it makes my expensive phone which I loved more and more the like phone I didn't want in the first place.
I also noticed the text is a lot smaller in text messages... good time to be an Optometrist.

The new visual style isn't too bad (IMO) has a couple features that I like, one being the lock screen where you enter your passcode, if you turn the screen when that is on, the number 5 stays completely in the middle and the rest move around it. Small I know, but is handy if the screen orientation changes while entering your code.

One thing I don't like is the increased drain on the battery, seeing this on both my iPad gen 3 and iPhone 4s.

Like many, I too have mixed feelings. However, I can confirm the same battery drain on my iPad gen 3 and iPhone 4S.

I REALLY like the functionality…I strongly dislike the colors and layout however. If I wasn't so lazy I would go back to IOS6 if I could!

I guess I'll get used to it. It's really hard on me battery. Some of the features are nice but as a whole it would need to grow on me.

I you wish to go back to iOS 6 best to do it soon, Apple will be disabling the ability to revert to the older OS.

They already have on lots of devices. I was going to try to go back, but I can't anymore. Locked in.

I made a larger post about this in the other IOS 7 thread, but I'll tell you one thing I do not like that I have discovered since then:

I think it is too easy to accidentally delete an entire message stream. If you swipe to the left on a message stream from the main text message display screen, it gives you the option to delete the entire stream by hitting delete. There isn't any, "Are you sure you want to delete this message?" question, either.

I am a sloppy swiper. When I move my thumb down to scroll through messages, it's usually more of a lazy, sloppy diagonal swipe than a straight top to bottom vertical swipe. Numerous times, I have attempted to scroll down, through my messages, only to have the DELETE option pop up on the one my thumb is presently hovering over. Am I making sense?

This isn't a huge deal, but it could be one if I accidentally delete a message stream of importance. It seems unnecessary, too. What was wrong with hitting edit and then deleting? It took two seconds.

I don't love the look yet. It's early and it may but we will see. Some of the usability features are welcome. I view it as a public beta. It's not so important where it is now but in the next 12-18 months.

I agree that it's very similar to some of the Android UIs, Samsung's or HTC's. I was on the fence about whether to get a Moto X or an iPhone 5S as my next phone, this made the decision easy. As has already been said, iOS 7 seems way to colorful and almost childish. This may appeal to some markets, but it seems like it's not gaining much traction with others.

I haven't used it much yet on my ipad2 (due to eye surgery), but it seems to function well enough. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the visual changes, but I don't atrongly dislike them either. I imagine I'll be used to it soon enough.
