I use the brush during all stages except bulling/spit shining.

And not just any brush. I use these.



8 inch professional Star brushes. They are easy to hold on to and deliver a great shine.

haven't read all the replies, but I don't like the two toned affect either. if you're going to spit shine leather, spits shine all of it. there's be a natural reflective difference between the toe and rest, because the creases just won't shine as brightly.

and I learned to finish layer with a cottonball, just a very hint of wax on it, and generally just breathing heavily onto the section I'm working.

and yes, a man should be able to shine and maintain his own shoes.
