Hophead Vodka

Although I'm not much of a Vodka drinker anymore. I'm curious to try this.

If you need your hop fix but don’t always feel like drinking a double IPA, consider a bottle of Hophead Vodka ($30). Made by Anchor Distilling Company, Hophead Vodka is distilled entirely from two types of hops. With it, you’ll get some 45% ABV booze that has the fresh floral quality of hops without the bitterness. Perfect for mixing up cocktails or just drinking straight if you’re planning on making it one of those nights. Since we’re huge IPA and hop fans in general, this is going in our cart the next time we hit the liquor store.

"Wow; yeah, lets have the hops in a high proof without all the trouble of having to drink a beer!"
(Head explodes.)

Actually, if it's all about floral/citrus nose I am not offended. I had to stop reacting and start thinking.

Since the hallmark of a good vodka is that it is smooth and doesn't taste like anything, I'm somewhat puzzled. On the other hand, I did find there was a definite difference between potato-based vodka* and grain-based vodka, I suppose this might stand on its own just fine.

*It's harder to find than you might expect.

Well I think its more of a hop infused vodka...since there are no starches in hops that can be converted to fermentable sugars.

well in that case I am just confused again.

Then again, there are people who buy maple-donut flavoured vodka.

I'm guessing its probably more like a Gin. After all, Gin is a neutral spirit that is infused with a variety of flavors, Juniper being the most prominent. I'm guessing this vodka is made in a similar manner, but with hops.

It's from Anchor, i.e. the brewers of pretty much one of the very first (and still pretty darn good) microbrews in Anchor Steam, one of the earliest examples of the modern IPA style (Liberty Ale), and one of the very first (if not the first) micro-distilled gins (Junipero).... their credentials are pretty impeccable as far as I'm concerned! I'm sure this stuff will be pricey, but good!

I've always liked Anchor Steam a lot. Discovering it when I first moved to California was a revelation. Beer could taste good! Even so, this is a scratch for an itch that I haven't been feeling.
