Hookah with Milk?

When I visited Germany in 2010 on a foreign exchange, I smoked a lot of hookah with my new local friends. Having no prior experience at the time, I took everything these guys said as the correct way to smoke this thing... but when they filled up the hookah with milk instead of water I was really confused. I asked and they said that it produced a more smooth and clean smoke. Have you guys heard of this or know anything about this?
I always just fill mine up with tap water :biggrin1:.

I have heard of this being done before and for a similar reason...however I do hear it makes it harder to clean. I haven't tried it with milk yet or anything besides water. hopefully someone with more experience can share :)

I chalk it up to the same phenomenon that makes people here want to try shaving with cheez whiz or soak their razors in vinegar.

I have never heard of using milk. I have heard of using liquor but could never bring myself to waste good liquor. Water with ice in it for me.

I saw an article linked to a youtube video where kids are putting dry ice and vodka in the hookah.
When someone warned him that dry ice is frozen CO2 and that the practice could be deadly, the kid responded very condescendingly that "Ice is made from water, and water is H2O, so there had to be oxygen in it. Go read some science dude.".

Well, someone hasn't read Darwin

I've heard of people using all kinds of strange stuff. Personally I wouldn't do it, the furthest I go is putting ice into the water. I don't want to try and clean anything else out of my hookah and/or possibly season it somehow with milk or something haha. I'm of the opinion though that if you're not getting a "smooth clean smoke" you're either doing it wrong or using the wrong shisha.

+1 (although I have tried it with some cheap white wine in college...yuck)

Whatever you do don't forget to put SOMETHING in the base. Once I was 5 minutes into a horrible hookah session before I realized I hadn't filled the base. It was harsh to say the least. The one positive was I could hear the TV the whole time since it wasn't bubbling.
