Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments - made my day!
If you're thinking of making your own here are some tips:
That particular deodorant is taller than most - you'll need it to fit 3 razors.
I used a hacksaw to cut to length and a rotary tool (Dremel) for the slot. If you're patient you can use repeated strokes of a sharp exacto knife to cut through.
Don't cut the slot all the way to the end - it'll be stronger that way and you won't have the head of the razor hitting the back of the cabinet.
If you look closely you'll see the plastic case has a ridge on one end. If yours has one put it at the back so there is a slight incline keeping the razors from falling out if you live near train tracks
Pre-drill the screw holes.
If desired for aesthetics you can remove the bottom decal. Use Goo Gone (or other adhesive remover) to get rid of glue residue.
In total took me 20 minutes.
As a side note - that purple bottle on the left is an old vitamin bottle with a child proof cap. I use it to store old blades. Doesn't look out of place and safer than throwing in the garbage. I have 2 little ones at home which is the reason behind all of this.
Have fun - post pics when your done - I'd love to see your improvements
Wow, that's a great idea! I like how the blades are fully enclosed by the plastic holder. Executed well.
I wish I had a cabinet where I could do something like that when I was making my own DIY holder/stand. I made a counter top razor stand with a lucite (plastic) ruler and a mirror....
Above... I just used an aluminum valve stem cap from my box of bike parts to cap off the threaded post.
...or I could also use the mirror as a topper, like below.
